GYMNASTICS OPENS 2012-13 SEASON WITH ANNUAL MAROON & GOLD EXHIBITION

Providence, R.I.-The Rhode Island College women's gymnastics team kicked off the 2012-13 season with the annual Maroon & Gold Exhibition at The Murray Center on Tuesday evening. The Anchorwomen split the squad and showcased their skills to gear up for the season opener, which takes place on Saturday, Jan. 13 at Springfield College (1 p.m.).

"Tuesday's meet was a great opportunity to see where each of our gymnasts are at as individuals and how they might gel as a team," said Head Coach Bob Nannig.  "They each had some shining moments and also worked some kinks out, but more importantly we got a chance to see how they will fare as a team throughout a competitive event. To be competitive this season we need to put up scores in the 9's consistently on every event.  Every gymnast on our team is capable of that, it is only a matter of using everybody's positive energy to insure that it happens."

Rhode Island College returns to The Murray Center for its home opener and lone home competition on Saturday, Jan. 26 against Southern Connecticut (7 p.m.).
