CHRIS BURTON NAMED LITTLE EAST
PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College sophomore forward Chris Burton (New Rochelle, NY) was named the Little East Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his performance in a 2-1 week for the Anchormen.

 

Burton averaged 14.0 points, 7.7 rebounds per game and shot 58.6 percent (17-for-29) from the field to reach double figures in scoring in each game. Burton registered his second double-double of the campaign against nationally-ranked Amherst, registering 10 points and a season-high 13 rebounds, on Jan. 29.

 

Two days later, he poured in a career-high 20 points and pulled down six boards in a road win at Clark. In just 16 minutes this past weekend, Burton recorded 12 points, on 4-of-5 from the field, and four rebounds at UMass Boston to keep the No. 18 Anchormen atop the conference standings. He also recorded a pair of blocks against the Lord Jeffs and Cougars.

 

 

 

For the season, Burton has played in 21 games, starting 12 of them. He is averaging 10.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and 2.2 steals per game.

 

Head Coach Bob Walsh’s team is 18-3 overall and 9-1 (first place) in the Little East Conference.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference play at home against UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, Feb. 5 (7:30 p.m.).
