ELYSCE TACKMANN TO PLAY IN PROFESSIONAL VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College head womenís volleyball coach Elysce Tackmann will be competing for Team New England in the USA Premier Volleyball League (PVL) for the second straight season.

 

The PVL is a professional volleyball league made up of teams from among the 40 Regional Volleyball Associations across the United States. League play begins this Friday, Feb. 15, while the 2013 PVL Championships will be held May 24th-29th in Louisville, KY.

 

Tackmann was a standout at Bryant University and helped the Bulldogs advance all the way to the NCAA Div. II Womenís Volleyball Sweet 16 in 2003. From 2003-2005, Tackmann and the Bulldogs went undefeated in the Northeast-10 Conference, winning 37 straight matches. At the time of her graduation, she was ninth in matches played (153), 10th in aces (190), 13th in both serve percentage (.870) and digs (981) and ranked 17th in digs (981) in Bulldog history.

 

Tackmannís (Career record: 30-29, .509) Anchorwomen finished the 2012 season with a 14-16 overall record and a 3-4 (fifth place) mark in the Little East Conference. For the fourth consecutive season, Rhode Island College qualified for the postseason, drawing a date with fourth-seeded Eastern Connecticut in the opening round of the 2012 Little East Conference Womenís Volleyball Tournament on Oct. 31. Despite falling to the Warriors in both regular season meetings, the fifth-seeded Anchorwomen stormed past fourth-seeded Eastern Connecticut, 3-0 (25-22, 32-30, 25-21), to advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2009.
