RICONDO COLE NAMED PILGRIM LEAGUE WRESTLER OF THE YEAR
ANCHORMEN PLACE EIGHT ON LEAGUE’S ALL-STAR TEAM

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College freshman 141 lbs. Ricondo Cole (Cranston, RI) was named the 2013 Pilgrim Wrestling League Wrestler of the Year. In addition to Cole, RIC had seven wrestlers selected to the 2013 Pilgrim Wrestling League’s All-Star Team and two more named to the Scholar-Athlete Team.

 

Cole was also named a First Team All-Star. He was 21-8 with 63 takedowns, seven reversals, 27 escapes, 15 near-falls and one pin on the season. During the season, Cole was named the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Rookie of the Week once and also garnered Pilgrim League Rookie of the Week honors on one occasion.

Senior 125 lbs. Mike Sugermeyer (Hampden, MA) was named a First Team All-Star. He earned All-NCAA Northeast Regional honors with a fourth place finish and compiled a record of 27-7 to go along with 61 takedowns, 10 reversals, 25 escapes, 21 near-falls and three pins.

 

Junior 133 lbs. Silas Murray (Brentwood, NY) was named a First Team All-Star. Murray was 19-9 with 50 takedowns, eight reversals, 14 escapes, 11 near-falls and two pins.

 

Senior 149 lbs. Alex LaBeef (Pomfret, CT) was named a Second Team All-Star. LaBeef was 9-14 with 17 takedowns, 15 reversals, 38 escapes, six near-falls and two pins on the season.

 

Junior 165 lbs. Josh Harrison (Mechanicville, NY) was named a Second Team All-Star. He was 8-14 with 11 takedowns, eight reversals, 11 escapes, nine near-falls and five pins on the season.

 

Junior 184 lbs. Adam Lynch (New Milford, CT) was named a Second Team All-Star and to the league’s Scholar-Athlete Team. Lynch was 13-23 with 34 takedowns, four reversals, 30 escapes, four near-falls and five pins on the season.

 

Junior 285 lbs. Brian Nicoll (Plaistow, NH) was named a Second Team All-Star. Nicoll earned All-NCAA Northeast Regional honors with a sixth place finish and compiled a 27-9 record to go along with 36 takedowns, two reversals, 32 escapes, seven near-falls and nine pins on the season.

 

Sophomore 174 lbs. Rob Sotelo (Little Falls, NJ) was an Honorable Mention to the All-Star Team. He was 13-20 with 71 takedowns, one reversal, 30 escapes, six near-falls and one pin on the season.

 

Junior 125 lbs. Jonathan Murray (Brentwood, NY) was named to the league’s Scholar-Athlete Team. Murray was 19-7 with 55 takedowns, 10 reversals, 26 escapes, 19 near-falls and five pins on the season.

 

Head Coach Jay Jones’ team finished the season with an 11-15 overall record, an 8-5 mark against NEWA opponents and were 4-1 (second place) in the Pilgrim Wrestling League. The Anchormen nearly captured the 2013 Pilgrim League title, but were edged by Roger Williams, 19-18, in the championship match.
