2012-13 Rhode Island College Womenís Swimming
Season Summary

(3-5 Overall; Sixth Place at the Little East Conference Championships)

 

Providence, R.I.-Head Coach Ron Sutherlandís team finished the 2012-13 campaign with a 3-5 record overall, as the Anchorwomen recorded their first-ever victory against the University of St. Joseph on Oct. 27. RIC earned a sixth place finish (eight teams) with a score of 100.0 at the 2012-13 Little East Conference Championships on Dec. 3. The Anchorwomen finished 10th (21 teams) with a score of 390.0 at the 2013 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships on Feb. 8-10.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Junior Sophie Kanno (Cranston, RI) finished ninth with a pair of season-high times in both the 100 breaststroke (1:09.94) and in the preliminaries of the 100 IM (1:04.95), while also finishing 12th with a season-best time of 1:04.53 in the 100 butterfly, at the NEISDA Championships on Feb. 8-10. Kanno finished first with a season-best time of 2:21.81 in the 200 IM and also finished first in the 50 breaststroke (34.72), while finishing third in the 50 butterfly with a season-best time of 29.44, at Eastern Connecticut on Feb. 2. She placed first in both the 100 butterfly (1:08.22) and the 50 butterfly (30.14), while also finishing second in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.69), at the Western Connecticut double duals on Jan. 27. Kanno took first place with a season-best time of 34.67 in the 50 breaststroke, and also finished first in the 100 IM (1:07.22) and the 100 breaststroke (1:14.08), at Husson on Jan. 19. She placed first both in both the 100 butterfly (1:07.71) and the 100 breaststroke (1:16.03), and also placed second in the 200 freestyle with a season-best time of 2:13.57, at the Plymouth State double duals on Jan. 12.

 

 

 

Kanno placed seventh in the 100 butterfly (1:06.86) and eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.23) at the Little East Championships on Dec. 1. She placed third in the 50 butterfly (29.75), seventh in the 50 breaststroke (35.54) and 10th in the 100 backstroke with a season-best time of 1:10.79 at the Louise Goodrum Invitational on Nov. 10. Kanno finished first in both the 50 breaststroke (35.14) and the 100 breaststroke (1:16.03), and also placed first in the 200 IM with a season-best time of 2:26.91, at Western New England on Nov. 2. She took first place in both the 100 butterfly (1:07.10) and the 100 breaststroke (1:16.48) at the University of St. Joseph on Oct. 27. 

 

 

 

Junior Laura Moreau (Woonsocket, RI) finished third in the 50 freestyle with a season-best time of 29.39 and fourth in the 50 backstroke (34.42) at Western New England on Nov. 2. She placed third in the 50 freestyle (29.41) and fourth in the 50 backstroke with a season-best time of 34.27 at the University of St. Joseph on Oct. 27. 

 

 

 

Sophomore Ramie Cormay (Walpole, MA) finished second in the 50 breaststroke with a season-best time of 38.94 and fourth in the 50 butterfly with a season-best time of 33.09 at Eastern Connecticut on Feb. 2. She finished third in the 50 breaststroke (39.11) and sixth in the 50 butterfly (33.92) at the Western Connecticut double duals on Jan. 27. Cormay finished third in both the 50 breaststroke (39.62) and the 100 breaststroke (1:24.00), while also finishing fourth in the 50 butterfly (33.23), at Husson on Jan. 19. She finished third in the 100 breaststroke (1:25.79) and fifth in the 200 breaststroke with a season-best time of 3:04.25 at the Plymouth State double duals on Jan. 12.

 

 

 

Cormay finished 18th in the 1,000 freestyle with a season-best time of 13:28.40 and 19th in the 100 breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:22.67 at the Little East Championships on Dec. 1. She placed 15th in the 50 breaststroke (39.16), while also placing 22nd in the 50 butterfly (33.79) and 24th in the 100 freestyle (1:08.42), at the Louise Goodrum Invitational on Nov. 10. Cormay finished third in the 1,000 freestyle (13:44.25) and fifth in the 50 butterfly (34.12) at Western New England on Nov. 2. She placed third in the 100 freestyle with a season-best time of 1:07.55 and also finished third in the 50 butterfly (33.38) at the University of St. Joseph on Oct. 27. 

 

 

 

Sophomore Amanda DiPaola (Exeter, RI) took second place in the 200 freestyle with a season-best time of 2:20.57 and finished fifth in the 100 backstroke with a season-high time of 1:15.87 at Western New England on Nov. 2. She finished second in the 50 breaststroke with a season-high time of 40.08 and fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:16.66) at the University of St. Joseph on Oct. 27. 

 

 

 

Sophomore Katherine Landry (Woonsocket, RI) finished fifth in the 100 backstroke with a season-best time of 1:12:60 and fifth in the 50 butterfly with a season-high time of 33.50, while also finishing sixth in the 50 backstroke (34.22), at Eastern Connecticut on Feb. 2. Landry picked up a trio of season-high times as she placed second in both the 50 backstroke (33.48) and the 100 IM (1:14.10), while finishing third in the 100 freestyle (1:05.70), at Husson on Jan. 19. She placed fourth in the 100 freestyle (1:07.23) at the Plymouth State double duals on Jan. 1.

 

 

 

Landry finished 17th in the 200 breaststroke with a season-best time of 3:03.47), and also finished 22nd in the 100 breaststroke (1:26.82) and 24th in the 100 freestyle (1:07.55) at the Little East Championships on Dec. 1. She finished 19th in the 50 breaststroke (41.72) at the Louise Goodrum Invitational on Nov. 10. Landry placed fourth in both the 50 breaststroke with a season-high time of 39.79, finished fourth in the 100 freestyle (1:06.48) and also finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:29.24) at Western New England on Nov. 2. She finished third in both the 50 breaststroke (40.32) and third in the 100 breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:25.91 at the University of St. Joseph on Oct. 27. 

 

 

 

Sophomore Abbie Leazes (Providence, RI) picked up a trio of season-high times as she placed third in the 400 IM (4:51.48) to earn All-New England honors, finished 12th in the 500 freestyle (5:28.87), and also earned a 14th-place finish (2:25.95) in the 200 butterfly at the NEISDA Championships on Feb. 8-10. She placed first in the 100 IM with a season-high time of 1:11.20, placed third in the 200 butterfly (2:35.51) and fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.96) at Eastern Connecticut on Feb. 2. Leazes finished first in both the 400 IM (5:07.76) and the 1,000 freestyle (11:45.57), while also finishing third in the 100 backstroke with a season-best time of 1:11.36, at the Western Connecticut double duals on Jan. 27. She took first place in the 200 freestyle with a season-best time of 2:10.67, finished first in the 100 freestyle with a season-high time of 1:01.14, and finished first in the 500 freestyle (5:43.38) at Husson on Jan. 19.

 

 

 

Leazes placed first in both the 200 butterfly (2:32.90) and the 200 IM (2:27.28), and also placed third in the 200 breaststroke (2:50.50) at the Plymouth State double duals on Jan. 12. She earned All-Little East honors thanks to a second place finish in the 400 IM (4:56.39) at the Little East Championships on Dec. 1. Leazes also finished sixth in the 1,000 freestyle with a season-best time of 11:32.96 and 10th in the 200 breaststroke with a season-best time of 2:46.62 at the LEC Championships. She finished fifth in the 200 IM (2:30.31), sixth in the 500 freestyle (5:43.50) and seventh in the 200 freestyle (2:11.52) at the Louise Goodrum Invitational on Nov. 10. Leazes took first place in the 200 freestyle (2:10.68), second place in the 200 IM with a season-best time of 2:27.07, and fourth place in the 100 breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:20.24 at Western New England on Nov. 2. She placed first in both the 1,000 freestyle (11:54.54) and the 200 IM (2:29.96), and also finished second in the 100 freestyle (1:01.62) at the University of St. Joseph on Oct. 27. 

 

 

 

Sophomore Kristen Wilkinson (North Providence, RI) finished 36th in the 100 backstroke with a season-high time of 1:10.96 at the NEISDA Championships on Feb. 8-10. She finished fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:11.41), fourth in the 50 backstroke with a season-best time of 33.61 and fifth in the 50 freestyle with a season-high time of 30.22 at Eastern Connecticut on Feb. 2. Wilkinson finished fourth in the 50 backstroke (34.08) and fifth in both the 100 backstroke (1:13.42) and the 50 freestyle (30.60) at the Western Connecticut double duals on Jan. 27. She placed second in the 100 backstroke (1:12.43) and third in the 50 backstroke (34.17) at Husson on Jan. 1.

 

 

 

Wilkinson finished fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:11.51), fifth in the 50 freestyle (30.77) and fifth in the 200 backstroke with a season-best time of 2:34.60 at the Plymouth State double duals on Jan. 12. She finished 25th in the 50 freestyle (30.31) at the Little East Championships on Dec. 1. Wilkinson finished third in the 50 backstroke (34.12) and fifth in the 50 freestyle (31.17) at Western New England on Nov. 2. She finished third in both the 50 backstroke (34.03) and the 100 backstroke (1:15.29) at the University of St. Joseph on Oct. 27, while also finishing fourth in the 50 freestyle (30.88). 

 

 

 

Freshman Marykate McCutcheon (Smithfield, RI) was named the womenís swimming teamís MVP. She placed third in the 1,000 freestyle with a season-best time of 11:00.43 and placed third in the 1,650 freestyle with a season-best time of 18:21.30 to attain All-New England honors in both events at the NEISDA Championships on Feb. 8-10. She also placed seventh in the 500 freestyle with a season-best time of 5:21.81. McCutcheon earned a pair of first place finishes in the 200 freestyle (2:04.47) and the 500 freestyle (5:33.94) at Eastern Connecticut on Feb. 2. She took first place in the 200 freestyle (2:06.80), the 100 freestyle (59.22) and the 500 freestyle (5:34.99) at the Western Connecticut double duals on Jan. 27. McCutcheon took first place in the 50 freestyle with a season-best time of 27.16, and also placed first in the 100 backstroke (1:08.21) and the 1650 freestyle (19:01.76) at Husson on Jan. 1.

 

 

 

She placed first in the 200 backstroke with a season-best time of 2:23.12, and also placed first in the 1,000 freestyle (11:26.36) and the 500 freestyle (5:35.48) at the Plymouth State double duals on Jan. 12. McCutcheon earned All-Little East honors by taking second place in the 500 freestyle (5:21.89) and also placed fifth in the 200 freestyle with a season-best time of 2:01.44 at the Little East Championships on Dec. 1. She took first place in the 500 freestyle (5:33.30) and also finished second in the 100 butterfly with a season-best time of 1:06.10 and fourth in the 100 freestyle with a season-high time of 59.03 at the Louise Goodrum Invitational on Nov. 10. McCutcheon placed first in the 100 freestyle (59.76), the 500 freestyle (5:43.90), and the 1,000 freestyle (11:33.02) at Western New England on Nov. 2. She took first place in the 200 freestyle with a season-best time of 2:06.34, finished first in the 100 backstroke with a season-best time of 1:06.38, and placed first in the 500 freestyle (5:44.51) at the University of St. Joseph on Oct. 27.  

 

 

 

Freshman Monique Mullins (North Providence, RI) picked up a pair of season-best times as she finished fourth in the 100 freestyle (1:11.78) and fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:32.87) at Eastern Connecticut on Feb. 2. She finished fifth in the 200 freestyle with a season-best time of 2:36.92, fifth in the 50 breaststroke with a season-best time of 43.65, and finished fifth in the 500 freestyle (6:57.38) at the Western Connecticut double duals on Jan. 27. Mullins finished third in both the 200 freestyle (2:38.66) and the 500 freestyle (7:05.13), while finishing fifth in the 100 freestyle (1:14.04) at Husson on Jan. 19. She finished sixth in the 500 freestyle (7:16.31) at the Plymouth State double duals on Jan. 12.

 

 

 

Mullins finished 25th in the 100 breaststroke (1:34.39), 30th in the 100 freestyle (1:13.72) and 33rd in the 50 freestyle with a season-high time of 33.77 at the Little East Championships on Dec. 1. She finished 23rd in the 50 breaststroke (44.70), 31st in the 50 freestyle (34.51) and 33rd in the 100 freestyle (1:17.12) at the Louise Goodrum Invitational on Nov. 10. Mullins finished fifth in the 500 freestyle (7:35.83), seventh in both the 50 freestyle (35.36) and seventh in the 50 backstroke with a season-high time of 43.43 at Western New England on Nov. 2. She finished fourth in the 50 breaststroke with a season-best time of 43.71, fourth in the 100 freestyle (1:18.93) and fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:39.20) at the University of St. Joseph on Oct. 27. 

 

 

 

Freshman Emily Thompson (Cumberland, RI) picked up a trio of season-high times as finished ninth in the 100 butterfly (1:03.27), ninth in the 50 butterfly (28.44) and 17th in the 50 backstroke (30.38) at the NEISDA Championships on Feb. 8-10. Thompson notched a pair of second place finishes in the 50 backstroke (31.89) and in the 50 freestyle with a season-best time of 27.58 at Eastern Connecticut on Feb. 2. She placed first in the 50 freestyle (27.90) and second in both the 50 backstroke (31.86) and the 100 freestyle (1:01.43) at the Western Connecticut double duals on Jan. 27. Thompson placed first in the 50 butterfly (29.85), the 50 backstroke (32.40) and the 100 butterfly (1:08.81) at Husson on Jan. 19. She placed first in the 100 freestyle with a season-best time of 1:01.34, first in the 50 freestyle (28.04), and third in the 100 backstroke (1:09.63) at the Plymouth State double duals on Jan. 12.

 

 

 

Thompson placed 15th in the 100 backstroke with a season-best time of 1:08.30 at the Little East Championships on Dec. 1. She placed fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:09.71), 14th in the 500 freestyle with a season-best time of 6:12.71, and 26th in the 50 backstroke (46.63) at the Louise Goodrum Invitational on Nov. 10. Thompson finished first in the 100 backstroke (1:10.65), second in the 50 butterfly (30.16) and third in the 100 butterfly (1:07.24) at Western New England on Nov. 2. She took first place in the 50 backstroke (31.84), the 50 freestyle (27.87) and the 50 butterfly (29.81) at the University of St. Joseph on Oct. 27.
