Cabral & Palazzini Lead Anchorwomen in Losses to Plattsburgh State and St. John Fisher

Bristol, R.I.-Senior middle hitter Amanda Cabral (Riverside, RI) tallied 14 kills and 11 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Lauren Palazzini (Woonsocket, RI) dished out 29 assists to go along with seven digs and six kills, as the Rhode Island College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of contests, 3-0, to Plattsburgh State and St. John Fisher, respectively, to close out the 2013 Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday.


Sophomore right side hitter Morgan Stewart (Willington, CT) recorded 13 digs on the day to go along with four kills and two aces, while sophomore right side hitter Adriana Ambari (Beacon Falls, CT) contributed with 12 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Michelle Malboeuf (Cumberland, RI) added 10 kills, five digs and two aces, while sophomore setter Emma Cajthaml (El Cajon, CA) handed out 11 assists.

Rhode Island College (0-4) opened the day against Plattsburgh State (1-3) and quickly fell behind after falling in the first set, 25-12. The Cardinals narrowly escaped with a 25-22 victory in the second set before putting the Anchorwomen away with a 25-15 win in the third and final set.


Graduate outside hitter Rosi Cummins (Plattsburgh, NY) paced the Cardinals with 13 kills, 10 digs, and three aces, while sophomore outside hitter Lisa Carmago (New York, NY) added 10 kills and five digs. Sophomore setter Kristen Marchisatto (Massapequa, NY) handed out 23 assists in the win.


Palazzini dished out 14 assists to go along with three digs to guide the Anchorwomen against Plattsburgh State, while Cabral and Ambari each notched eight kills. Stewart chipped in with seven digs and three kills, while Malboeuf contributed with three kills and two aces.


In its second match of the day, Rhode Island College again fell short in the first set, 25-19, against St. John Fisher (2-2). The Cardinals posted a strong showing in the second set, surging past the Anchorwomen, 25-12, before closing out the competition with a 25-21 win in the third set.


St. John Fisher was paced by junior middle blocker Paige Willson (East Concord, NY), as she posted a team-high 12 kills against RIC. Senior middle blocker Rachael Kline (Oneida, NY) registered 10 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Megan Miller (Lancaster, NY) chipped in with six kills and 14 digs. Sophomore setter Erica Stickler (Horseheads, NY) and freshman setter Ali Mann (Winter Haven, FL) dished out 15 assists and 11 assists, respectively.  


Cabral led RIC with six kills and seven digs, while Stewart added six digs. Palazzini also dished out 15 assists while chipping in with four kills along the way.  


In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen host Wheaton College in non-conference action at the Rhode Island College Recreation Center on Tuesday (6 p.m.).
