RIC MAKES IT TWO STRAIGHT WITH, 9-0, SHUTOUT AT SALEM STATE

Salem, Mass.-Senior Alex Werchadlo (Woonsocket, RI) won at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-1) and paired with freshman Troy Derrick (Rumford, RI) for an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles as Rhode Island College defeated Salem State, 9-0, in Little East Conference menís tennis action on Saturday afternoon.

 

RIC (2-2, 1-0 LEC) wins for the second straight match, while Salem State slips to 0-4 and 0-1 in conference.

 

The Anchormen swept all three doubles spots as sophomore Timothy Holzinger (Foster, RI) and freshman Seongkyeong Kim (North Providence, RI) earned an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles.

Freshman Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) and sophomore Gowin Nanthawongsa (Johnston, RI) completed the sweep with an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.

 

The Anchormen kept the momentum going as Werchadlo and Derrick earned wins at first and second flight singles. Holzinger, Taggart, Kim and Nanthawongsa all won in third through sixth singles, with Nanthawongsa the only one to lose a set.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Clark on Monday, April 7 (4 p.m.).
