Providence, R.I.-Springfield College cruised to a 9-0 sweep of the Rhode Island College men's tennis team on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at the RIC Tennis Courts.


Springfield (6-5) opened the action by cruising through doubles play, as the visitors swept all three matches. Freshman Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, MA) and senior Joe Giannelli (Watertown, CT) won at No. 1 doubles, 8-5, freshman Justin Danielewicz (Portland, CT) and freshman Kyle Beynor (Prospect, CT) easily won at No. 2 doubles, 8-1, and sophomore Josh Robinson (Southold, NY) and freshman Nate Weissman (Longmeadow, MA) earned the, 8-4, win at No. 3 doubles.


Meanwhile, DeVarennes took No. 1 singles with a score of 6-2, 6-0, Danielewicz won at No. 2 singles by a score of 6-3, 6-1, and Giannelli won at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Completing the singles sweep was Beynor at No. 4 singles (6-0, 6-3), Robinson at No. 5 singles (6-2, 7-6, 7-5) and Weissman at No. 6 singles (6-3, 6-1). Freshman Seongkyeong Kim (North Providence, RI) forced the tiebreaker and kept things close for RIC (2-4) at No. 5 singles, which proved to be the most tightly contested matchup of the day.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College travels to Emerson College on Friday, April 11 (4 p.m.).
