ANCHORMEN PICK UP SECOND SHUTOUT WIN

Boston, Mass.-Freshman Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) did not lose a game (6-0, 6-0) at No. 4 singles as Rhode Island College picked up its second shutout win of the season with a 9-0 decision at Emerson on Friday afternoon.

 

 The Anchormen (3-4) were aided by a trio of forfeits, as Emerson (0-6) was not able to field a competitor at No. 5 and 6 singles, as well as third doubles.

 

Senior Alex Werchadlo (Woonsocket, RI) won at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-3) and paired with freshman Troy Derrick (Rumford, RI) for an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. Derrick also won at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-0).

Sophomore Timothy Holzinger (Foster, RI) won at No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-2) and combined with Taggart for an 8-0 win at second doubles.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference action at Southern Maine on Saturday, April 12 (1 p.m.).
