Providence, R.I.-Senior Alex Werchadlo’s (Woonsocket, RI) and sophomore Tim Holzinger (Foster, RI) each came back from first set losses to win at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively, as Rhode Island College shut out Thomas, 9-0, in collegiate men's tennis action played at the RIC Tennis Courts on Monday afternoon.


 The Anchormen (5-6), who picked up their second shutout win of the year, swept all three double matches to begin the day. Werchadlo and freshman Troy Derrick (Rumford, RI) recorded an 8-2 victory at first doubles.


Holzinger and freshman Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) won, 8-3, at second doubles, while freshman Seongkyeong Kim (North Providence, RI) and junior Sean Raudonaitis (Westport, MA) did not lose a game in an 8-0 whitewash at No. 3 doubles.

Werchadlo fell behind, 6-3, to Thomas' (6-5) Tyler Small, but rallied to win the next two sets, 7-5, 6-3, to pick up the win. Holzinger dropped his first set, 6-4, to Malcolm Marshall, but came back to win the next two, 6-3, 6-4.


Derrick, Taggart, Kim and Raudonaitis all won in straight sets as the hosts won their second consecutive match


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College resumes Little East Conference play at home against UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday, April 23 (3:30 p.m.).
