Menís Outdoor Track & Field Summary

Providence, R.I.-Head Coach Kevin Jacksonís team closed out the 2014 menís outdoor track and field season by sending a trio of competitors to the 2014 NCAA Div. III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on May 22-24. The Anchormen finished 32nd (82 institutions) with a team score of 9.0.

 

Prior to the NCAA Championships, the Anchormen tied for 14th place overall (57 teams) and finished with a score of 21.0 at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships on May 15-16. RIC tied for 30th overall (36 teams) with a score of 8.0 at the New England Open Championships on May 9-10.

 

RIC placed 12th overall (32 teams) with a team score of 28.0 at the New England Div. III Championships on May 2-3. The Anchormen finished sixth (11 teams) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 27 with a score of 63.0 and placed third (six teams) in the Little East Conference with a score of 92.0.

 

 

 

Senior Mike Farias (West Greenwich, RI) finished 28th in the 100m (12.16) and 34th in the long jump (5.22m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 27. He finished eighth in the 200m (24.22), 10th in the 100m (11.82; season-best) and 12th in the long jump (5.51m) at the Silfen Invitational on April 19. Farias finished sixth in the long jump (5.64m; season-best) and 20th in the 200m (24.46) at the Brown Invitational on April 12. He finished 22nd in the long jump (5.62m), 42nd in the 100m (12.14) and 48th in the 200m (24.61) at the Corsair Invitational on April 5. Farias finished 14th in the long jump (5.56m) and 19th in the 200m (24.20; season-best) at the Coast Guard Invitational on March 29.

 

Farias is a justice studies major and a 2009 graduate of Exeter-West Greenwich High School. He played baseball for the Anchormen in 2013.

 

Senior Cameron Richer (Woonsocket, RI) chalked up a second place finish in the 10,000m (36:07.67) at the Silfen Invitational on April 19. Richer finished fourth in the 5,000m (16:58.37) at the Brown Invitational on April 12. He finished 35th in the 1,500m (4:28.75) at the Corsair Invitational on April 5. Richer finished 21st in the 5,000m (16:54.60; season-best) at the Coast Guard Invitational on March 29.

 

As a junior in 2013, he earned N.E. Alliance honors in the 10,000m, placing sixth (34:35.63; season-best), at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 27. Richer finished third in the 10,000m (34:55.03) at the Silfen Invitational on April 20. He placed 31st in the 3,000m (9:23.11) at the Brown Invitational on April 13. Richer finished 11th in the 10,000m (35:25.94) at the Corsair Invitational on April 6. He finished 22nd in the 5,000m (17:17.20) at the Coast Guard Invitational on March 30.

 

As a sophomore in 2012, Richer finished 11th in the 10,000m (36:12.19) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 28. He placed first in the 10,000m with a season-best performance (35:20.64) at the Silfen Invitational on April 28. Richer placed 14th in the 5,000m with a season-best time (16:26.07) at the Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational on April 14. He finished 20th in the 1,500m with a season-best time (4:32.98) at the Corsair Classic on April 7. Richer placed 11th in the 5,000m (16:45.86) at the Coast Guard Bear Invitational on March 31.

 

As a freshman in 2011, Richer finished 17th in the 5,000m (17:09.83) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 30. He placed 21st in the 5,000m with a season-best time (17:03.63) at the Silfen Invitational on April 23. Richer placed 15th in the 3,000m with a season-best time (10:01.45) at the Swanson Invitational on April 9. He finished 35th in the 1,500m with a season-best time (4:29.73) at the Coast Guard Spring Invitational on April 2. Richer finished 49th in the 1,500m (4:38.59) at the Jerry Gravel Classic hosted on March 26.

 

He is a mathematics major with a minor in finance and a 2010 graduate of Woonsocket High School.

 

Junior Jarell Forbes (Providence, RI) was named the 2014 Little East Conference Menís Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year and team MVP. Forbes finished seventh in the nation in the 400m hurdles, en route to attaining All-American honors, with an effort of 52.81 in the final day of competition at the 2014 NCAA Div. III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 22-24. Forbes assured himself of All-American honors with a fifth-place (52.59) effort in the preliminaries of the 400m hurdles on the first day of competition and established a new program record in the event along the way. He earned All-ECAC honors after taking home the title in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.48 at the ECAC Championships on May 15-16. Forbes also placed 13th in the preliminaries of the 110m hurdles (15.13). Forbes finished ninth and established a new program record in the preliminaries of the 110m hurdles (14.77m) and also placed 10th in the 400m hurdles preliminaries (54.75) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 9-10. He was the New England Champion in the 400m hurdles (52.89) and also notched a second place finish in the 110m hurdles (14.78) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 3.

 

Forbes picked up a trio of New England Alliance honors at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 27, as he was the N.E. Alliance Champion in the 400m hurdles (54.24) and was the Little East Champion in the 110m hurdles, where he finished second overall (15.08). Forbes also placed third in the long jump (6.22m) and 11th in the high jump (1.78m).  He placed first in both the 400m (50.71) and the 400m hurdles (55.58), while also finishing second in the high jump (1.93m; season-best) and fourth in the long jump (6.30m; season-best), at the Silfen Invitational on April 19. Forbes took first place in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.02 and also finished first in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.28 at the Brown Invitational on April 12. He finished third in the 110m hurdles (15.41) and 13th in the 200m (23.25) at the Corsair Invitational on April 5. Forbes placed third in the 110m hurdles (15.49), fifth in the high jump (1.83m) and 32nd in the 800m (2:07.97) at the Coast Guard Invitational on March 29. He was named Little East Conference Track Athlete of the Week twice on the season.

 

Sophomore Christian Colavecchio (Foster, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors with a fourth place finish in the hammer (43.52m; season-best) and also finished 16th in the javelin (39.72m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 27. He placed third in the hammer (41.15m), fourth in the javelin (44.04m) and ninth in the discus (26.43m) at the Silfen Invitational on April 19. Colavecchio placed sixth in the javelin (47.48m; season-best) and 11th in the hammer (38.65m) at the Brown Invitational on April 12. He placed ninth in the hammer (38.89m) and 10th in the javelin (45.70m) at the Corsair Invitational on April 5. Colavecchio finished 19th in the javelin (38.98m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on March 29.

 

Sophomore Jack Covino (Cumberland, RI) placed 19th in the hammer (44.11m) at the ECAC Championships on May 15-16. Covino placed 21st in the hammer (43.05m) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 9-10. He earned N.E. Alliance honors after taking second in the hammer (48.79m; season-best) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 27. Covino placed second in the hammer (41.75m) at the Silfen Invitational on April 19. He took seventh in the hammer (43.68m) at the Brown Invitational on April 12. Covino posted a third place finish in the hammer (42.55m) at the Corsair Invitational on April 5. He placed eighth in the hammer (40.91m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on March 29.

 

Sophomore Edward Cummins (Lincoln, RI) placed 15th in the hammer (55.13m) at the 2014 NCAA Div. III Outdoor  Track and Field Championships on May 22-24. He earned All-ECAC honors after finishing fourth in the hammer (54.91m) at the ECAC Championships on May 15-16. Cummins was the N.E. Alliance Champion in the hammer (55.68m; season-best) and also placed seventh in the discus (41.92m; season-best) and 10th in the shot (12.26m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 27. He placed first in the hammer (51.19m), second in the discus (40.07m) and third in the shot (12.22m) at the Silfen Invitational on April 19. Cummins took second in the hammer (52.86m), fifth in the shot (12.21m) and eighth in the discus (38.98m) at the Brown Invitational on April 12. He took first place in the hammer (51.54m) and also placed 10th in the discus (36.86m) and 11th in the shot (12.31m; season-best) at the Corsair Invitational on April 5. Cummins took first place in the hammer (51.97m) and added sixth place finishes in both the shot (12.21m) and the discus (33.08m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on March 29.

 

Sophomore Joel Ikuejamofo (Providence, RI) finished sixth in the 400m (53.48) at the Silfen Invitational on April 19.

 

Freshman Seth Larbi (Pawtucket, RI) finished 16th in the hammer (37.38m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 27. He finished sixth in the hammer (37.58m; season-best), 10th in the shot (10.12m; season-best) and 14th in the discus (21.96m) at the Silfen Invitational on April 19. Larbi finished 10th in the shot (9.67m) at the Brown Invitational on April 12. He finished 42nd in the shot (9.33m) at the Corsair Invitational on April 5. Larbi finished 16th in the hammer (36.68m) and 28th in the shot (9.52m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on March 29.

 

Freshman Drew Sutherland (Plymouth, MA) finished 20th in the shot (10.92m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 27. Sutherland placed fourth in the shot (11.34m) and 10th in the discus (25.28m) at the Silfen Invitational on April 19. He placed eighth in the shot (11.11m) at the Brown Invitational on April 12. Sutherland finished 23rd in the shot (11.25m) at the Corsair Invitational on April 5. He placed seventh in the shot (11.93m; season-best) at the Coast Guard Invitational on March 29.

 

Freshman Steve Vazquez (Central Falls, RI) was named the 2014 Little East Conference Menís Rookie Field Athlete of the Year. He tied for second place nationally in the high jump (2.09m) en route to earning All-American honors at the 2014 NCAA Div. III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 22-24. Vazquez picked up All-ECAC honors with a third place finish in the high jump (2.06m) at the ECAC Championships on May 15-16. He took second place in the high jump and established a program record (2.10m) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 9-10. Vazquez earned All-New England honors in the high jump (1.98m) after finishing fourth overall at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 3.

 

He earned a pair of N.E. Alliance honors, placing third in the high jump (1.98m) and sixth in the triple jump (12.60m), while also finishing 17th in the 400m (53.01; season-best) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 27. Vazquez took first place in the high jump (1.98m) to go along with a second place finish in the triple jump (12.71m; season-best) at the Silfen Invitational on April 19. He won the high jump (2.05m) at the Brown Invitational on April 12. Vazquez finished first in the high jump (1.98m) to go along with an 18th place finish in the 400m (53.36) at the Corsair Invitational on April 5. He placed first in the high jump (1.93m) and posted a sixth place finish in the triple jump (11.96m) at the Coast Guard Invitational on March 29. Vazquez was named the Little East Conference Rookie Field Athlete of the Week five times on the year.

 

Freshman Isaiah Wooden (Seekonk, MA) finished 19th in the 400m hurdles (1:02.25), 23rd in the long jump (5.54m) and 27th in the 100m (12.14) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 27. Wooden placed fourth in the 100m (11.60; season-best), fifth in the triple jump (12.07m; season-best) and seventh in both the long jump (6.04m) and the 400m hurdles (1:05.89) at the Silfen Invitational on April 19. He finished third in the long jump (6.06m; season-best) and seventh in the 400m hurdles (1:00.39; season-best) at the Brown Invitational on April 12. Wooden finished ninth in the 400m hurdles (1:01.19) and 17th in the long jump (5.74m) at the Corsair Invitational on April 5. He took sixth place in the long jump (5.85m), ninth in the triple jump (11.40m) and 15th in the 110m hurdles (1:03.59) at the Coast Guard Invitational on March 29.
