TYLER RAINS SIGNS WITH NEWPORT GULLS
Foley & Morvan Attend Cape Cod League Baseball Tryout

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College freshman catcher Tyler Rains (North Kingstown, RI) has signed on to play this summer with the Newport Gulls of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL). In addition, sophomore right fielder Matt Foley (Seekonk, MA) and junior pitcher Kyle Morvan (Smithfield, RI) attended the Cape Cod League tryout session last week in hopes of landing a spot in the prestigious summer league.

 

As a freshman in 2014, Rains played in 25 games, starting 22 of them. He batted .247 (19-for-77) with 19 hits, three doubles, one home run, 12 RBI, nine walks and nine runs scored. Rains owned a .325 slugging percentage, a .333 on-base percentage and a .958 fielding percentage.

As a sophomore in 2014, Foley was named Second Team All-Little East. He played in 31 games, starting 30 of them. Foley batted .373 (41-for-110) with 41 hits, six doubles, one triple, one home run, 23 RBI, six walks, one stolen base and 16 runs scored. He owned a .473 slugging percentage, a .402 on-base percentage and a .962 fielding percentage. Foley led the team in hits, RBI, batting average and slugging percentage, was tied for the team lead in total bases (52), and ranked second in on-base percentage and triples. His .373 average was also good for fifth in the Little East Conference.

As a junior in 2014, Morvan appeared in 13 games, starting 10 of them. He went 5-3 with 46 strikeouts, three complete games, one shutout and a 3.68 ERA in 63.2 innings on the mound. Morvan led the Anchormen in shutouts and finished the season tied for the team lead in wins and complete games, while ranking second in games started, ERA, strikeouts, innings pitched and opponents batting average against (.279). He also ranked fourth in the Little East Conference in strikeouts. Morvan was named the Little East Conference Pitcher of the Week once on the season.
