SILAS MURRAY ADVANCES TO DAY TWO AT NCAA DIV. III WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Cedar Rapids, Iowa-Despite losing his first match, Rhode Island College senior 133 lbs. Silas Murray (Brentwood, NY) rallied to win two matches and stay alive in his quest for All-American status at the 2014 NCAA Div. III Wrestling Championships, hosted by Cornell College at the U.S. Cellular Center on Friday evening.

Murray lost, 11-9, to Wisconsin-La Crosse's Dustin Weinmann, which dropped the Anchorman captain into the wrestleback bracket. He then defeated Trine's Brandon Preston, 10-3, and Wilkes' Myzar Medeiros, 9-2.

 

Murray cannot lose again, or will face elimination, and will face Concordia Morehead's Jacoby Bergeron on Saturday morning in his next match.

 

 

 Junior 125 lbs. Jonathan Murray

 

Murray's brother, junior 125 lbs. Jonathan Murray (Brentwood, NY) went 1-2 to end his run at the National Championships. He lost to No. 1-seeded Paul Bewak from Johns Hopkins, 16-4, then defeated Dubuque's Nick Rivera, 7-3. Murray was eliminated after a hard-fought, 3-1, loss in sudden victory to North Central's Nicolas Santos.
