RIC BLOWS OUT WHEELOCK, 9-0, TO OPEN 2014

Springfield, Mass.-Junior forward Jose Zarraga (Providence, RI), senior forward Brian Sujecki (Pawcatuck, CT), freshman midfielder Solomon Agyemang (Pawtucket, RI), freshman forward Steven Cardoso (Pawtucket, RI) and freshman forward Akiel Legall (Providence, RI) each finished with a goal and an assist as the Rhode Island College men's soccer team crushed Wheelock, 9-0, at the 2014 Soccer City Shootout, hosted by Western New England on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Anchormen (1-0) took the Wildcats (0-1) out behind the woodshed, outshooting them 58-1 and allowing no shots on goal. Freshman Adam Ghazal (Pawtucket, RI) played the first 45 minutes in goal before giving way to sophomore Alexander LaBreche (Lincoln, RI) in the second half. Neither netminder needed to make a save in the win.

RIC had seven different goal scorers, and Wheelock added an own goal to account for the final margin. The Anchormen also took 13 corner kicks.

 

Freshman forward Komla Dogbey (Providence, RI), sophomore midfielder Tyler Kenyon (Exeter, RI) and junior forward Steven Cataldo (Attleboro, MA) rounded out the RIC goal scorers.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play host Western New England tomorrow afternoon (2:30 p.m.).
