ARBOLEDA & MATTHEW NAMED TO ALL-SHOOTOUT TEAM AS ANCHORMEN FALL TO GOLDEN BEARS, 3-0

Springfield, Mass.-Junior forward Kevin Arboleda (Pawtucket, RI) and sophomore defender Yemi Matthew (Providence, RI) were named to the All-Soccer City Shootout Team as the Rhode Island College men's soccer team lost to host Western New England, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon.

The game was scoreless until the 71st minute until WNE (2-0) junior defender Colin MacDonald (West Newbury, MA) broke the stalemate with an unassisted goal.

 

Three minutes later, senior midfielder Tim Murray (Lebanon, CT) was set up by junior midfielder Luis Agrait (South Hadley, MA) for an important insurance strike.

 

Sophomore forward Ryan Dickinson (South Hadley, MA) put the game away in the 88th minute, converting a pass from sophomore midfielder Anthony Crissafulli (Voorheersville, NY).

 

 RIC (1-1) freshman goalkeeper Adam Ghazal (Pawtucket, RI) made three saves in the loss. WNE sophomore goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, MA) turned away seven Anchormen offerings to notch the shutout win.

 

The shots were pretty much even, as the hosts held a slight edge, 13-12. WNE also had two more corner kick attempts, 8-6.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Worcester State on Wednesday, Sept. 3 (6 p.m.).
