CURRAN LEADS ANCHORWOMEN IN, 149-83, LOSS TO WESTERN NEW ENGLAND

Smithfield, R.I.-Freshman Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, RI) won the 50-yard breaststroke (33.69) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.62), while classmate Alexis Riggott (Walpole, MA) won the 500-yard freestyle (6:02.03) and the 200-yard IM (2:37.23), as the Rhode Island College women's swimming team fell,  149-83, to Western New England University at Bryant University on Friday night.

 

Curran finished the meet with first place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.62) and the 50-yard breaststroke (33.69) and a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (27.52) as the Anchorwomen (1-1) fell on Halloween night.

The Golden Bears’ (1-0) freshman Erika Sheinhait (Framingham, MA) took victories in the 100-yard freestyle (59.63), 50-yard freestyle (26.72) and the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.82), while senior Gianna Albanese (Coventry, RI) earned victories in the 50-yard backstroke (33.51) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:12.80).

 

RIC freshman Taylor Ryan (Warwick, RI) took home victories in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.74) and the 50-yard butterfly (29.92), while Riggott notched a second place finish in 200-yard freestyle (2:17.62) in addition to her victories.

 

RIC sophomore Rachel Soria (Pawtucket, RI) placed second in both the 50-yard backstroke (34.44) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:14.70).

 

Freshman Samantha Roberts (Willington, CT) placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (35.60) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (1:20.12).

 

In upcoming action, The Anchorwomen will compete at the UMD Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 8 (noon).
