MICHELLE MALBOEUF POSTS 10 KILLS AS ANCHORWOMEN OPEN LITTLE EAST PLAY
WITH, 3-1, WIN OVER PLYMOUTH STATE

Providence, R.I.-Junior middle hitter Michelle Malboeuf (Cumberland, RI) recorded 10 kills, while freshman outside hitter Logan Fontes (East Providence, RI) narrowly missed out on a double-double with nine kills and nine digs, as the Rhode Island College women’s volleyball squad defeated Plymouth State, 3-1, in Little East Conference action played at The Murray Center on Saturday afternoon.

 

The win marks the first regular season Little East victory for the Anchorwomen since October 27, 2012, when they defeated Plymouth State, 3-1, at the Murray Center.

The first set saw Fontes (1-5, 1-0 LEC) tally six kills on eight attempts to lead the Anchorwomen to a 25-16 victory over Plymouth State (1-5, 0-1 LEC). The second set was a back and forth battle that saw the Anchorwomen emerge victorious with a 25-23 win. The Panthers cut the lead in half when they took the third set, 25-18. After falling behind early in the fourth set, the Anchorwomen clawed back to take the set 25-20, giving Head Coach Leo Bush his first collegiate victory.

 

RIC was led by Fontes, with her nine kills and nine assists, Malboeuf’s 10 kills and freshman Abigayl White (Coventry, RI) with a team high 35 assists. Junior outside hitter Lauren Palazzini (Woonsocket, RI) finished with a team-high three service aces.

 

The Panthers were led by junior setter Kirsten Perrotta (Hudson, NH) with a team high 31 assists and six digs. Senior outside hitter Jana Nieman (Fair Lawn, NJ) and sophomore middle blocker Brianna Wojtas (Salem, NH) led the attack for the Panthers with 10 kills each. Wojtas also added six block assists.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Lasell on Tuesday, Sept. 16 (7 p.m.).
