FORD CAPTURES MEDALIST HONORS AS RIC MENíS GOLF OPENS 2014-15 WITH WIN AT MCLA INVITATIONAL

Pittsfield, Mass.-Rhode Island College senior Patrick Ford (Halifax, MA) went to a playoff with teammate junior Jonathan Cooper (Berkley, MA) and won on the first playoff hole to capture his second straight individual championship at the MCLA Invitational played at the Berkshire Hills Country Club on Saturday afternoon.

 

Ford, who also won in 2013, and Cooper were joined by junior Pete Camerlengo (Pembroke, MA) at the top of the leaderboard, helping push the RIC menís golf squad to a team victory. RIC also won the tournament a year ago.

The Anchormen shot a 310 (75, 75, 78, 82; +22) to take a 14-stroke victory over Westfield State. SUNY Cobleskill shot a 339 (+41) to finish in third, while Worcester State finished with a 359 (+61) to finish fourth. MCLA, the hosts, finished fifth with a team score of 417 (+129).

 

Ford and Cooper shot identical 75ís (+3), while Camerlengo rounded out the top three with a 78 (+6). Freshman Drew Quirk (Longmeadow, MA) shot an 82 (+10), while senior Ryan Butler (Windham, NH) rounded out the RIC quintet with a 88 (+16)

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at the Williams Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 20-21.
