ANCHORWOMEN STORM PAST COLONIALS, 9-0

Providence, R.I.-Sophomore Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI) dominated at both No.4 singles and No.2 doubles to give the Rhode Island College women’s tennis team its seventh straight victory to start the season as they defeated Little East Conference foe Western Connecticut, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon at the RIC Tennis Courts.

 

Rhode Island College’s (7-0, 2-0 LEC) No. 1 doubles pairing saw senior Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, CT) and freshman partner Kim Daigle (Sterling, MA) defeat Western Connecticut’s (2-2, 0-1 LEC) duo of freshman Lianne Maynard (Milford, CT) and sophomore Olivia Mauro (Harwinton, CT), 8-3, to give the Anchorwomen the early edge.

No. 2 doubles saw junior Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) and Reddy breeze by the Colonials’ pair of juniors Angelica Jara (Patterson, NY) and Alexandra Moravsky (Sherman, CT), 8-1.

 

Rounding out the doubles action for the Anchorwomen was sophomores Noelle Tiberi (Smithfield, RI) and Jorgie Martin (Greenville, RI), who defeated the WCSU pairing of sophomore Carine Jaque’ (New London, CT) and senior Nicole Salamacha (Winsted, CT), 8-3, to complete the doubles sweep for the hosts.

 

Campanella topped Maynard (3-6, 6-1, 6-0) at No. 1 singles, while Daigle edged Jara (6-0, 6-1) at the No. 2 flight. No. 3 singles saw Brown earn the straight set victory over Mauro (6-1, 6-1), while Reddy dominated Jaque’ (6-0, 6-0) at No. 4 singles.

 

Junior Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) topped Salamacha (6-3, 6-0) at No. 5 singles, while freshman Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) moved her No. 6 singles record to 5-0 with a victory over Moravsky (6-0, 6-0).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference play at UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, Sept. 23 (3:30 p.m.).
