RIC WOMEN'S TENNIS BLANKS UMASS DARTMOUTH, 9-0

North Dartmouth, Mass.-Junior Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) and sophomore partner Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI) opened the day with an 8-1 victory in doubles action as the Rhode Island College womenís tennis team upped its winning streak to eight as they defeated UMass Dartmouth, 9-0, in Little East Conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

 

Rhode Island College (8-0, 3-0 LEC) Senior Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, CT) and freshman Kim Daigle (Sterling, MA) topped UMass Dartmouth (2-2, 0-1 LEC) sophomore Jillian Reichert (Marion, MA) and freshman Mollie McCaffrey (Tauton, MA), 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Campanella and Reddy topped the Corsairsí pair of junior Kristen Rose (North Dartmouth, MA) and freshman Kheyla Orival (Woburn, MA), 8-1, in the No. 2 doubles match.

No. 3 doubles saw  RICís sophomore duo of Noelle Tiberi (Smithfield, RI) and Jorgie Martin (Greenville, RI) defeat UMDís freshmen pairing of Molina Oung (Bourne, MA) and Nicole Nault (Wareham, MA), 8-4, to give the Anchorwomen the 3-0 lead entering singles action.

 

No. 1 singles saw Campanella top freshman Kerry Magoon (Marshfield, MA) (6-0, 6-3), while Daigle topped McCaffrey (6-1, 6-2) at the No. 2 flight.

 

Brown defeated Orival (6-1, 6-4) at No. 3 singles and Reddy topped Rose (6-0, 6-1) at the No. 4 slot. Junior Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) topped Reichert (6-0, 6-2) at No. 5 singles and No. 6 singles saw freshman Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) top sophomore Rosaline Kimba (Milford, MA) (6-2, 6-3) to cap the 9-0 victory for the Anchorwomen.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference play at home against UMass Boston on Saturday, Sept. 27 (1 p.m.).
