CADAVID LEADS WILDCATS TO, 3-0,
WIN AT RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE

Providence, R.I.-Johnson & Wales junior outside hitter Paula Cadavid (Pawtucket, RI) recorded a match-high 16 kills to go along with nine digs as the Wildcats topped the Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team, 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-22) on Tuesday evening at The Murray Center.

 

In the first set, Rhode Island College (5-8) opened a 10-7 advantage on a kill from junior outside hitter Lauren Palazzini (Woonsocket, RI). The play bounced back and forth with both teams trading points until it was 22-22. Johnson & Wales (6-8) would use a 3-0 run, capped by a kill from senior middle blocker Lauren Cordts (Amherst, NH) to take the first set, 25-22.

 

The Wildcats took control of the second set and opened a 20-12 lead on a Cadavid kill with the assist going to junior setter Kellen Tensen (New Canaan, CT). The Anchorwomen would score four more in the set, but fell, 25-14.

In the final stanza, a kill by junior middle hitter Michelle Malboeuf (Cumberland, RI), off an assist from freshman setter Abigayl White (Coventry, RI), pushed the RIC lead to three, 9-6. The teams traded the lead until a block by Cordts put the Wildcats up for good, 22-18. A late rally wouldn’t be enough as the Anchorwomen dropped the final set, 25-22, to complete the JWU sweep.

 

Rhode Island College was led by Malboeuf, who finished with seven kills and 13 digs, while White handed out 20 assists. Junior middle hitter Morgan Stewart (Willington, CT) chipped in six kills in the loss

 

The Wildcats were led by Cadavid’s 16 kills and .455 hitting percentage, while senior outside hitter Alyssa Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) recorded six kills, five blocks and 11 digs in the victory.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Eastern Nazarene on Wednesday, Oct. 1 (7 p.m.).
