MEN’S GOLF FIRES A SEASON-LOW 302 TO
WIN WESTFIELD STATE INVITATIONAL

Westfield, Mass.-Senior Patrick Ford (Halifax, MA) finished second with an even-par 71 to lead the Rhode Island College men’s golf team to a victory at the 2014 Westfield State Invitational at the Tekoa Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.

 

Ford was followed by senior Ryan Butler (Windham, NH), who finished fifth with a 75 (+4). Junior Pete Camerlengo (Pembroke, MA) had a rough front nine, but rallied after the turn to finish in a tie for 12th with a 78 (+7).

 

 

 

Four top 12 finishes helped the Anchormen take the victory with a season best score of 302.

 

The Anchormen shot a 302 (71, 75, 78, 78; +18) to take a seven-stroke victory over Babson. Castleton State shot a 314 to finish in third, while Westfield State “Blue” finished with a 316 to record a fourth place effort. Roger Williams rounded out the top five, shooting a 325.

 

Camerlengo tied with junior Jonathan Cooper (Berkley, MA) with a 78 (+7). Freshman Drew Quirk (Longmeadow, MA) rounded out the RIC scoring with an 81 (+10).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2014 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships on Oct. 18-19.
