THOMA MAKES 11 SAVES IN, 3-0, LOSS TO BECKER

Leicester, Mass.-Freshman forward Alison Mosdale (Marlborough, CT) tallied two goals and senior goaltender Kaitlyn Rose (North Attleboro, MA) recorded a four-save shutout as the Rhode Island College women’s soccer team fell, 3-0, to Becker College on Wednesday afternoon.

 

Becker (5-4) struck first when senior Katherine Cormier (San Diego, CA) took a feed from senior midfielder Alyssa Bond (Thompson, CT) and ripped a shot past Rhode Island College (1-8) senior goalkeeper Justina Thoma (Canterbury, CT) in the 16th minute. The remainder of the first half was a defensive struggle with neither team scoring again. Thoma ended the half with six saves, while Rose recorded one in the stanza.

The second half saw a lopsided contest with the Anchorwomen being outshot by the Hawks, 11-3. Mosdale doubled the Becker lead in the 78th minute when she took a feed from senior forward Alycia Dery (Millville, MA). RIC sophomore forward Elsa Almeida (Coventry, RI) had the Anchorwomen’s best chance in the second half, but was turned away by Rose. Mosdale’s second of the night in the 90th minute secured the 3-0 victory for the hosts.

 

Thoma (0-3) made 11 saves in the loss, while Rose (4-0) stopped four in the victory. 

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference action at home against Keene State on Saturday, Oct. 4 (1 p.m.).
