LEGALL SCORES IN, 3-1, LOSS TO KEENE STATE

Keene, N.H.-Senior midfielder David Ricci (Smithfield, RI) assisted on a late goal by freshman forward Akiel Legall (Providence, RI)  as the Rhode Island College menís soccer team fell on the road to rival Keene State, 3-1, in Little East Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Anchormen (6-4-1, 1-1-1 LEC) applied pressure early with senior forward  Emmanuel Asiedu (Lincoln, RI) taking a shot wide just 35 seconds into the game. Senior defender Kwasi Boateng (East Hartford, CT) followed that with a shot off the post in the fourth minute.

 

The Owls (5-5, 1-2 LEC) got on the board in the 30th minute when freshman midfielder Riley Steele (Sutton, MA) corralled a loose ball and slipped it past Rhode Island College freshman goalkeeper Adam Ghazal (Pawtucket, RI) to give the Owls the 1-0 edge.

The Owls entered the half with the 1-0 lead with Ghazal making four stops and junior goaltender Mark Keller (Northborough, MA) stopping two for KSC.

 

KSC doubled their lead in the 53rd minute when junior forward Eddie Mercer (South Hadley, MA) was fouled in the penalty area and converted on the ensuing penalty kick.

 

The Owls stretched their lead to 3-0 when freshman forward Promise Kpee (Manchester, NH) took a feed from senior defender Kaleb Lique-Naitove (Keene, NH) and pushed it past Ghazal in the 65th minute.

 

The Anchormen scored their lone goal of the game when Ricci fed a pass to Legall who headed it home in 84th minute. Keller (2-1) made two saves in the victory, while Ghazal (5-4-1) stopped six in the defeat.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference action at home against Plymouth State on Saturday, Oct. 11 (1 p.m.).
