ANCHORWOMEN COME UP SHORT IN, 4-0,
LOSS AT PLYMOUTH STATE

Plymouth, N.H.-Plymouth State University senior forward Emily Bell (Derry, NH) notched two goals and added two helpers as the Panthers handed the Rhode Island College women’s soccer team a 4-0 defeat in Little East Conference action played at the New Hampton School on Saturday morning.

 

Plymouth State (4-7, 2-2 LEC) got on the board in the third minute when Bell took a feed from freshman forward Kate Dasey (Concord, NH) and slipped it past RIC (2-10, 0-5 LEC) senior goalkeeper Audrey Maia (Norton, MA) to give the hosts the 1-0 advantage.

Bell took a corner in the 24th minute and fed it into the box where freshman midfielder Ashley Brenner (Londonderry, NH) headed it home for the 2-0 lead. The score remained the same entering the half with PSU holding a 9-3 advantage in shots.

 

The 57th minute saw Bell strike again as she beat a pair of RIC defenders and kicked it past senior goalkeeper Justin Thoma (Canterbury, CT) who had come on in relief of Maia. The Panthers rounded out the scoring in the 73rd minute when Bell fed another corner into the box, which found the head of senior midfielder Brittany Terra (Bristol, RI) who directed it into the back of the net for the 4-0 lead.

 

The Anchorwomen were outshot, 16-5, in the game with Maia (1-7) and Thoma each allowing two goals and making four saves in the setback. PSU sophomore goalkeeper Annaliese Schmidt (Newmarket, NH) posted her third shutout of the season with a four-stop effort.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Fitchburg State on Wednesday, October 15 (7 p.m.).
