Milton, Mass.-Freshman forward Komla Dogbey (Providence, RI) tallied a pair of goals and freshman goaltender Adam Ghazal (Pawtucket, RI) recorded 12 saves in his second collegiate shutout as the Rhode Island College menís soccer team topped Curry, 2-0, at Walter M. Katz field on Wednesday night.


Rhode Island College (8-4-1) struck in the 32nd minute when Dogbey slipped a shot past Curry (8-6-1) sophomore goalkeeper Daniel Johnson (Easton, CT) for the 1-0 RIC lead. The teams battled back and forth for the remaining 13 minutes, but neither defense faltered and the teams entered the half with RIC holding the 1-0 lead.

Ghazal stopped four in the first stanza while Johnson recorded three saves.


The second half saw the Colonials up the pressure, outshooting the Anchormen 11-8 in the frame. The defenses kept the score 1-0 until the 70th minute when Dogbey took a feed from junior forward Jose Zarraga (Providence, RI) to double the RIC lead, 2-0. The hosts kept the pressure on late, but three key saves by Ghazal kept the score 2-0 until the final buzzer sounded.


Ghazal (8-4-1) recorded 12 saves in his second collegiate shutout, while Johnson (8-6-1) notched six in the loss. The Colonials held a 17-15 shot advantage and a 12-8 advantage in shots on goal. RIC held the advantage in corner kicks, 3-1.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference action at home against Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Oct. 18 (1 p.m.).
