COOPER LEADS THE WAY AS ANCHORMEN FINISH DAY ONE
AT GNAC CHAMPIONSHIPS IN FIRST PLACE

Canton, Mass.-Rhode Island College junior Jonathan Cooper (Berkley, MA) finished day one of the 2014 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Menís Golf Championships in first place after first round action played at Ponkapoag Golf Course on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Anchormen currently sit in first place with a team score of 292, nine strokes better than second place Johnson & Wales (301). UMass Dartmouth (304), Southern Maine (305), Suffolk (309), Worcester State & Emmanuel (317) and St. Josephís (ME) (327) round out the eight-team field.

Cooper shot an even-par 70 to lead the 40-golfer field. Classmate Ryan Butler (Windham, NH) shot a 72 (+2) to tie for second.

 

Senior Patrick Ford (Halifax, MA) is currently tied for sixth with a 74 (+4). Freshman Drew Quirk (Longmeadow, MA) is tied for 12th with a 76 (+6).

 

Junior Peter Camerlengo (Pembroke, MA) rounded out the RIC contingent in a tie for 27th (81; +11).

 

Head Coach Greg Gammellís Anchormen are looking to secure the programís fourth consecutive GNAC Championship and earn a trip to the 2015 NCAA Div. III Menís Golf Championships in May.

 

The second and final round begins tomorrow morning (10 a.m.).
