TILLISON SCORES AS ANCHORWOMEN
WRAP UP SEASON ON SENIOR DAY

Providence, R.I.-Senior midfielder Harmony Tillison (Cranston, RI) scored her first goal of the season as the Rhode Island College womenís soccer team wrapped up the 2014 season with a 3-2 loss to UMass Boston in Little East Conference action played at the RIC Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon.

Tillison, along with classmate defender Sam Nolte (Cranston, RI), goalkeeper Audrey Maia (Norton, MA) and goalkeeper Justina Thoma (Canterbury, CT), were each honored, along with their families, with a ceremony prior to the game to commemorate Senior Day 2014.

The Beacons (10-5-5, 6-1 LEC) jumped out to an early lead in the 25th minute when senior back Brittany Castillo (Yarmouth, MA) won a challenge at midfield and fed classmate midfielder Amanda Pugliese (Pembroke, MA) at the top of the 18-yard box. Pugliese slid the ball to the right side to senior forward Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, MA) who then beat Maia to the far post for her 20th of the year.

The Anchorwomen (2-14-1, 0-6-1 LEC) knotted the game at 1-1 in the 42nd minute when freshman midfielder Brooke Morris (Lincoln, RI) intercepted a clearing pass about 35 yards out from the UMB net on the near sideline. Morris then found junior forward Gabrielle Turner (Smithfield, RI) who made a nice move to her left to beat UMB senior goalkeeper Dani Perkins (Murrieta, CA) for her team-leading 12th of the season.

The rain, which had been steady in the first half, picked up in the second stanza, but UMass Boston jumped ahead, 2-1, in the 55th minute. The Beacons began a scoring chance from the near sideline, but Thoma, who had come on to start the second half, read the play and punched the ball out of harmís way. UMB senior midfielder Cindy Cortes (Medellin, Columbia) corralled the loose ball at the top right of the 18-yard box and sent a pass to senior midfielder Erick Garufi (Milton, MA) for a header that found the back of the net. It was Garufiís eighth of the season.

Garufi then help set up the game-winner in the 64th minute by taking possession of the ball in her own zone and lofting a ball out over the top to a streaking Ledin. Ledin outraced the RIC defense, settled the ball and broke in on Thoma. She tapped the ball past Thoma, off the far post and into the net for her 21st of the year.

The Anchorwomen pulled within one goal, 3-2, in the 87th minute when sophomore midfielder Angela Ragosta (Greenville, RI) found Tillison at the top of the box. Tillison muscled her way past the defense and pushed across her first of the year.

The Beacons kept RIC off the scoreboard over the final 3:15 to come away with the victory. The visitors held a 31-18 advantage in shots and a 7-1 margin in corner kicks.
