SEAN GRANT SCORES AS RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE WRAPS UP REGULAR SEASON WITH A 1-0 SHUTOUT AT UMASS BOSTON

Boston, Mass.-Senior forward Sean Grant (Hope, RI) scored the lone goal as Rhode Island College downed UMass Boston, 1-0, in Little East Conference menís soccer action on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Anchormen (12-5-1, 4-2-1 LEC) secured the fourth seed in the upcoming 2014 Little East Conference Menís Soccer Tournament and will travel back to the top-seeded Beacons (12-5-2, 5-1-1 LEC) in the semifinal on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

 

Freshman forward Komla Dogbey (Providence, RI) fed a cross to Grant, who then one-timed the pass into the net for his fourth of the year in the fifth minute.

 

 

 

 

RIC freshman goalkeeper Adam Ghazal (Pawtucket, RI), along with his defense, made the lead stand up over the final 85 minutes. Ghazal (10-5-1) had to make just two saves to pick up his fifth shutout of the season.

 

The Anchormen held slight advantages in shots, 10-6, and also led in corner kicks, 7-1.

 

UMass Boston junior goalkeeper Alfonso Rosales (Revere, MA) made three saves in a losing (9-4-2) effort.
