PALAZZINI PACES ANCHORWOMEN IN SPLIT
WITH KEENE STATE AND EASTERN NAZARENE

Providence, R.I.-Junior outside hitter Lauren Palazzini (Woonsocket, RI) recorded a team-high 20 kills to go along with five service aces as the Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team split a tri-match on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Anchorwomen fell to Little East Conference foe Keene State, 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-23), before topping Eastern Nazarene 3-1 (25-15, 25-14, 22-25, 25-20) in the late match at The Murray Center.

 

RIC (12-13, 3-4 LEC) is the fifth seed in the upcoming 2014 Little East Conference Women’s Volleyball Tournament and will travel to face fourth-seeded Western Connecticut on Tuesday, Nov. 4 in first round action. The Owls (19-15, 6-1 LEC) clinched the second seed and a bye.

Rhode Island College opened the day with a loss, 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-23), to the Owls. Junior middle hitter Michelle Malboeuf (Cumberland, RI) led the Anchorwomen with nine kills and eight digs, while freshman setter Abigayl White (Coventry, RI) chipped in 23 assists and 11 digs. Junior middle blocker Madeline Nossiff (Portsmouth, NH) led the Owls with seven kills, while sophomore setter Brooke Bell (Melrose, MA) and junior libero Alexis Michal (Windham, NH) combined for 29 assists for the match.

 

The middle match of the day saw the Owls top Eastern Nazarene (3-25), 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-16). Michal tallied a team-high 16 assists, while junior outside hitter Angela Silveri (Poughquag, NY) recorded a match-high seven kills to go along with four service aces and four digs. The Lions were led by senior outside hitter Kourtney Jenkins (Bunker Hill, WV), who finished with 11 kills and five digs. Sophomore setter Lauryl Berger (Laurel, DE) finished with a match-high 20 assists.

 

The final contest of the day saw the Anchorwomen take a hard fought, 3-1 (25-15, 25-14, 22-25, 25-20), victory over the Lions. Malboeuf finished with 10 kills and Palazzini posted 12 kills, four aces and nine digs. Jenkins led the Lions with 11 kills and six digs, while junior outside hitter Hannah Welsh (Derry, NH) chipped in with nine kills and six assists to go along with eight digs.

 

For the day, Palazzini finished with 20 kills and 12 digs. White finished with 61 assists. Jenkins led the Lions with 22 kills and 11 assists and Silveri paced the Owls with 16 kills, 17 digs and six aces.
