COLE, SLANE & GEORGES ALL RANKED IN NEWA PRESEASON WRESTLING RANKINGS

Providence, R.I.-The Rhode Island College wrestling team was selected fifth in the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) pre-season coaches’ poll announced today. Three Anchormen were selected to preseason top-five rankings in their respective weight classes.

 

Junior Ricondo Cole (Cranston, RI) was ranked second at 141 lbs. Cole went 24-5 a season ago en route to earning NCAA All-Northeast Regional honors and NEWA Second Team All-Star accolades at 141 lbs.

Senior Joseph Slane (Tomkins Cove, NY) was ranked third at 157 lbs. Slane finished the season with a 7-3 record at 149 lbs. He was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2014 NEWA Dual Championship on Jan. 26.

Sophomore John Georges (Cranston, RI) was ranked fifth in the 197 lbs. weight class. Georges finished the 2013-14 campaign with a 13-15 record at 197-285 lbs. His best performance of the season came at the 2014 Dolphin Invitational where he finished fourth at 197 lbs.

Head Coach Jay Jones returns for his 16th season on the sidelines for the Anchormen. Last season, RIC finished the year with a 16-4 record and a 10-3 mark in NEWA action. His team placed seventh at the NCAA Regional tournament and followed that performance with a 42nd place finish at the NCAA Div. III Championships.
