2014 Rhode Island College Women’s Cross Country
Season Summary

Providence, R.I.-Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s women’s cross country squad concluded up the 2014 season with a 38th place (57 teams) finish at the 2014 N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 15.

 

RIC placed 10th (15 teams) in the Alliance and fifth (seven teams) in the Little East at the 2014 N.E. Alliance Championships on Nov. 1. The top finish for the season was a fourth place (12 teams) mark at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 27.

 

 

 

Senior Julie Merlain (Providence, RI) placed 174th place (30:50.12) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Nov. 1. She placed 197th (29:11.47) at the Golden Bear Invitational on Oct. 18. Merlain finished 407th with a season-best time (28:55.61) at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 11. She finished 138th (31:24.0) at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 27.

 

Merlain is an elementary education major with a minor in Africana studies. She is a 2011 graduate of The Met High School.

 

Senior Jena Pare’ (Tiverton, RI) wrapped up her RIC career by finishing 61st (22:06.26) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Nov. 1. Pare’ finished 18th (20:45.88) at the Golden Bear Invitational on Oct. 18. She finished 101st (20:56.0) at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 11. Pare’ finished 33rd (22:23.0) in her first race of the season at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 27.

 

As a junior in 2013, Pare’ was the team’s top finisher on two occasions. She placed 130th (24:12.08) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 16. She earned N.E. Alliance honors with an 18th place finish and a season-best effort (20:05.89) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Nov. 2. She placed 15th (20:25.15) at the Western New England Invitational on Oct. 19. Pare’ placed 80th (21:02.42) at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 12. She came in 35th overall (22:26) at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 21. 

 

As a sophomore in 2012, she played on the RIC women’s soccer team. She appeared in 11 games, starting four of them.

 

As a freshman in 2011, Pare’ played in 18 games, starting 15 of them.

 

Pare’ is a physical education/health major with a minor in coaching. She is a 2011 graduate of Tiverton High School.

 

Junior Rebecca Tellier (Smithfield, RI) was named the team MVP and was Rhode Island College’s top finisher in five races. She finished 177th (25:22.2) to pace the Anchorwomen at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 15. Tellier placed 42nd (21:29.93) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Nov. 1. She finished 11th (20:27.31) to pace the Anchorwomen at the Golden Bear Invitational on Oct. 18. Tellier finished 65th (20:13.82) at the James Earley invitational on Oct. 11. She placed 14th (21:07.0) to lead all RIC finishers at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 27. Tellier finished 132nd (20:48.95) to lead all Anchorwomen at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 20.

 

Sophomore Jenna Capobianco (Foster, RI) placed 280th (27:14.2) at the NCAA N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 15. She finished 91st (23:34.67) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Nov. 1. Capobianco finished 93rd (23:09.06) at the WNE Golden Bear Invitational on Oct. 18. She placed 174th with a season-best (21:59.37) effort at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 11.

 

Sophomore Abigail Dandurand (Hope Valley, RI) finished 338th (28:54.3) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 15. She placed 106th (24:00.50) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Nov. 1. She placed 64th (22:14.50) at the Golden Bear Invitational on Oct. 18. Dandurand finished 188th (22:08.49) at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 11. She placed 60th (23:56.0) at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 27. Dandurand finished 190th with a season-best (21:54.89) time at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 20.

 

Sophomore Lauren Deguire (Blackstone, MA) placed 180th (25:24.0) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 15. She paced the Anchorwomen with a 39th-place (21:28.16) finish at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Nov. 1. Deguire finished 35th (21:11.78) at the Golden Bear Invitational on Oct. 18. She placed 89th with a season-best time (20:43.31) at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 11. Deguire finished 31st (22:13.0) at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 27. She finished 134th (20:48.95) at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 20.

 

Sophomore Allison Lomas (Saunderstown, RI) placed 178th (25:23.7) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 15. She finished 78th (22:49.24) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Nov. 1. Lomas finished 62nd (22:09.47) at the Golden Bear Invitational on Oct. 18. She finished 104th (20:59.54) at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 11. Lomas placed 36th (22:30.0) at the 2014 Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 27. She finished 174th (21:19.67) at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 20.

 

Sophomore Jessica Trautman (Narragansett, RI) finished 356th (29:52.9) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 15. She placed 140th (25:19.15) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Nov. 1. Trautman finished 111th (23:40.75) at the Golden Bear Invitational on Oct. 18. She finished 261st (23:13.62) at the James Earley Invitational Oct. 11. Trautman finished 78th (24:49.0) at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 27.  She placed 223rd with a season-best (23:04.54) at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 20.

 

Freshman Lissa Almanzar (Providence, RI) did not compete during the season.

 

Freshman Alicia Holloway finished 88th (25:31.0) at the Pop Crowell Invitational. She placed 222nd (23:02.79) at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 20.

 

Freshman Melissa Longolucco (Bradford, RI) placed 169th (29:01.45) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Nov. 1. She placed 189th (28:17.09) at the Golden Bear Invitational on Oct. 18. Longolucco placed 381st (26:24.37) at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 11. She placed 129th (30:19.0) at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 27.
