LANDON SCORES TWICE IN, 16-5,
LOSS TO KEENE STATE

Keene, N.H.-Senior attacker Danielle Landon (Wading River, NY) scored two goals and picked up four ground balls as Rhode Island College lost, 16-5, at Keene State in Little East Conference women’s lacrosse action played at Owl Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

 

RIC (0-9, 0-3 LEC) freshman goalkeeper Alasondra Apici (Providence, RI) made 10 saves and led the squad with five ground balls in the loss. Sophomore midfielder Jessica Trautman (Narragansett, RI), sophomore attacker Betsy Heidel (Warwick, RI) and senior attacker Jessica Ricci (Hope, RI) rounded out the Anchorwomen goal scorers.

 

Junior midfielder Kaitlin Nolan (Mahopac, NY) and senior midfielder Christa Demovellan (Westwood, MA) and each recorded three goals for the Owls (3-9, 3-0 LEC).

 

KSC senior defender Polly Grey (Saratoga Springs, NY), junior attacker Emilee Silegy (Keene, NH) and sophomore midfielder Jenna Bellano (Brookfield, RI) each finished with a pair of goals. Freshman defender Tara Kilderry (Northshore, NY) had a great day on defense, collecting seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.

 

The Anchorwomen gave the Owls a scare, going up 2-1 on goals by Trautman and Landon for a 2-1 lead with 27:29 on the clock. KSC responded with nine straight goals to end the half, taking a 10-2 lead into halftime.

RIC opened the second stanza with Landon's second score of the game. Demovellan and Silegy added two more for the home team for a 12-3 advantage.

 

After a Rhode Island College goal, Keene State sophomore attacker Kylie Coppola (Norwalk, CT) notched her first goal of the season as the Owls would outscore the visitors, 3-1, to end the game.

 

Keene sophomore goalkeepers Alison Argio (Hingham, MA) and Cheyenne Mata-Notel (East Hampton, NY) combined to make four saves in the win.

 

KSC held the 17-5 advantage in in draw controls,  while also leading in ground balls, 39-23 and shots, 32-10.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference action at Southern Maine on Tuesday, April 14 (4 p.m.).
