Danbury, Conn.-Rhode Island College junior Tim Holzinger (Foster, RI) picked up victories at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles as the Rhode Island College menís tennis team topped Little East foe Western Connecticut State, 7-2, on Tuesday afternoon.


The Anchormen (2-5, 1-2 LEC) opened the day by taking all three doubles points from the Colonials (2-4, 1-2 LEC).


Holzinger and sophomore Seongkyeong Kim (North Providence, RI) topped junior Romney Tiru (Waterbury, CT) and sophomore Jason Hipona (Orange, CT), 8-5, at No. 1 doubles. Freshman Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, RI) and classmate Josh Pimentel (Smithfield, RI) topped sophomore Daniel Winter (New Milford, CT) and freshman Benjamin Cortez (Danbury, CT), 9-7, at No. 2 doubles.


The Anchormen took the sweep with sophomore Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) and senior Brian Gil (North Providence, RI) topping freshman Adam Howard (Waterford, CT) and freshman Jeffery Hensley (Naugatuck, CT), 8-4, at No. 3 doubles.

Holzinger bested Hipona (6-3, 6-2) at No. 1 singles, with Kim topping Tiru (6-3, 6-1) at the No. 2 flight.


No. 3 singles saw Taggart top Howard (6-2, 6-2), while Winter topped Tiberi (6-1, 6-4) at No. 4 singles.


Pimentel beat Cortez (6-3, 7-5) at No. 5 singles, while Hensley defeated Gil (6-4, 6-3) at the No. 6 flight.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Johnson & Wales on Thursday, April 16 (3:30 p.m.).
