YANKEE & PINGITORE EARN WEEKLY LITTLE EAST BASEBALL AWARDS

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College junior outfielder Joe Yankee (Lincoln, RI) and junior pitcher Dylan Pingitore (Johnston, RI) were recognized by the Little East Conference for their respective performances in a 5-0 week for the baseball team.

 

Yankee was named the Little East Conference Baseball Player of the Week. He played in five games, starting all of them, and batted .500 (11-for-22) to go along with seven runs scored, 11 hits, 11 RBI, four doubles, a home run and four stolen bases. Yankee went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in an 11-0 win over UMass Dartmouth on April 14. He went 5-for-9 with three runs scored, seven RBI, four doubles and a homer in a doubleheader sweep of Eastern Connecticut on April 18. For the season, he has played in 24 games, starting all of them. Yankee is batting .418 (38-for-91) with 21 runs scored, 38 hits, nine doubles, three triples, two homers, 30 RBI and eight stolen bases. He owns a .648 slugging percentage, a .424 on-base percentage and a .977 fielding percentage.

Pingitore was named the Little East Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week. He hurled a no-hitter, allowing just three walks to go along with eight strikeouts, in RICís 11-0 win over UMass Dartmouth on April 14. Pingitore also hurled an inning of scoreless relief in the Anchormenís, 16-7, win over Eastern Connecticut on April 18. For the season, he has appeared in six games, starting four of them. Pingitore is 2-0 with a 1.61 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 28.0 innings pitched.

Head Coach Scott Virgulakís team is 17-7 overall and 6-3 in the Little East. In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference action at UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, April 21 (3:30 p.m.).
