VAZQUEZ AND CHARLES WIN INDIVIDUAL TITLES AT NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

Cambridge, Mass.-Sophomore Steve Vazquez (Central Falls, RI) earned All-New England honors and won an individual title lead Rhode Island College at the 2015 New England Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by MIT on Saturday afternoon.

 

Rhode Island College finished 12th (28 teams) with a score of 28.0. MIT won the championship with a score of 171.5.

Vazquez  took home All-New England honors with a first place finish in the high jump (2.14m), which broke his own program record.

 

Senior Craig Amado (Providence, RI) earned All-New England honors with a second place finish in the triple jump (14.86m). He also placed ninth in the long jump (6.61m).

 

Junior Edward Cummins (Lincoln, RI) earned All-New England honors with a fourth place finish in the hammer throw (58.54m), which broke his own program record.

 

Senior Jarell Forbes (Providence, RI) earned All-New England honors with a fifth place finish in  the 400m hurdles (54.77).

 

Junior Christian Colavecchio (Foster, RI) earned All-New England honors with an eighth place finish in the hammer (50.25m).

 

Freshman Akiel Legall (Providence, RI) placed 17th in the long jump (6.10m) and 22nd in the triple jump (12.40m).Sophomore Colin Cabral (Cumberland, RI) placed 13th in the shot (12.83m), 15th in the javelin (47.60m) and 17th in the hammer throw (44.69m).

 

Freshman Matthew Charles (North Providence, RI) placed 10th in the 200m (22.50). He also placed 17th in the 100m (11.36).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the New England Open Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 8-9.
