ANCHORMEN FINISH DAY ONE OF NCAA MEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS RANKED IN THE TOP-20

Greensboro, N.C.-Senior Ryan Butler (Windham, NH) shot a one-over 73 to lead the Rhode Island College men’s golf team at the 2015 NCAA Div. III National Championships played at the Grandover Resort & Conference Center on Tuesday.

After the first round, the Anchormen are in a 19th-place tie (41 teams) with a score of 303 (+15).  Methodist University leads the field with a score of 284 (-4).

Junior Pete Camerlengo (Pembroke, MA) is tied for 170th, shooting an 82 (+10). Freshman Drew Quirk (Longmeadow, MA) rounded out the RIC quintet, finishing in a tie for 187th, shooting an 84 (+12).

“Ryan drove the ball into all 14 fairways and that allowed him to hit second shots on to many greens,” Head Coach Greg Gammell said. “Pat and Coop had 4 and 3 birdies, respectively, which contributed to their low scores.”

The Anchormen played the shorter West course on day one and will compete on the longer East course tomorrow when day two (noon) competition begins.
