FIVE FROM RIC HEADED TO NCAA TRACK & FIELD NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College will have five representatives (three men; two women) at the NCAA Div. III Men's and Women's Track & Field National Championships, hosted by St. Lawrence University on Thursday and Friday, May 21-22.

 

Junior Edward Cummins (Lincoln, RI) will compete in the hammer. Cummins earned All-ECAC honors with a sixth place finish in the hammer (57.23m) at the ECAC Championships on May 14-15. He earned All-New England honors with a fourth place finish in the hammer throw (58.54m), which broke his own program record, on May 2. Cummins took home N.E. Alliance honors in three events at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 25. He finished first in the hammer (56.82m), seventh in the discus (40.13m) and eighth in the shot (13.39m).

Sophomore Steven Vazquez (Central Falls, RI) will compete in the high jump. Vazquez, a two-time All-American, took home All-New England honors with a first place finish in the high jump (2.14m), which broke his own program record, on May 2. Vazquez took home N.E. Alliance honors with a first place finish in the high jump (2.06m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 25.

Senior Craig Amado (Providence, RI) will compete in the triple jump. Amado took home the ECAC Championship and earned All-ECAC honors in the triple jump (15.15m) setting a new school record with a first-place effort, at the ECAC Championships on May 14-15. He earned All-New England honors with a second place finish in the triple jump (14.86m) at the N.E. Championships on May 2. Amado earned N.E. Alliance honors in two events at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 25. He placed second in the triple jump (14.76m) and a fifth in the long jump (6.90m).

Senior Daria Braboy (Providence, RI) will compete in the triple jump. She earned All-ECAC honors with a fifth place, and new school record, finish in the triple jump (11.84m) at the ECAC Championships on May 14-15. Braboy earned All-New England honors and placed fifth in the triple jump (11.55m) at the N.E. Championships on May 2. Braboy also took home three N.E. Alliance honors at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 25. She placed first in the triple jump (11.49m), second in the 400m (57.58) and fifth in the 200m (26.72).

Sophomore Destinee Barrette (Warwick, RI) will compete in the hammer. Barrette earned All-ECAC honors with a second place finish in the hammer (51.14m) at the ECAC Championships on May 14-15. She earned All-New England honors and placed second in the hammer (51.48m) at the N.E. Championships on May 2. Barrette took home N.E. Alliance honors by taking first in the hammer (48.30m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 25.
