RIC MEN’S BASKETBALL PICKED FIRST IN
LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL

Providence, R.I.-The Rhode Island College men’s basketball team has been selected first in the 2014-15 Little East Preseason Poll as announced by the league office this afternoon. The team received 44 points and four first place votes, narrowly edging out Eastern Connecticut (43 points, four first place votes) for the top spot.

“It is an honor to be picked preseason No. 1 in The Little East Conference,” Head Coach Michael Byrnes said. “The Rhode Island College men’s basketball program has been very successful over the past decade and I am really looking forward to leading these student-athletes toward continued success.”

Following the Warriors in the poll was perennial LEC power Keene State with 36 points. Western Connecticut was fourth with 32 points, while UMass Dartmouth was pegged fifth with 26 points. Plymouth State and Southern Maine each garnered 18 points, while UMass Boston was selected eighth with seven points.

The Anchormen return a roster full of talent from last season’s Little East Tournament Championship squad. With a roster comprised of five seniors, one junior, two sophomores and three freshmen, the Anchormen have a blend of veterans and youth that will look to secure their ninth straight NCAA Tournament berth.

Senior forward Chris Burton (New Rochelle, NY) and classmate center Victor Smith (Providence, RI), each First Team All-Little East selections a season ago, will provide frontcourt toughness. Senior guard Eric Alleyne (Watertown, MA) gives RIC a proven floor marshal.

The Anchormen open the season on Saturday, Nov. 15, when they take on SUNY Brockport at the 2014 Marymount University Tournament in Arlington, VA. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
