JESS KORZEC NAMED ECAC N.E. DIV. III
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Providence, R.I.-Freshman guard Jess Korzec (West Brookfield, MA) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference New England Div. III Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for her performance in helping Rhode Island College go 1-1 and earn Head Coach Glenn Senecal his first victory at the helm of the Anchorwomen.

 

She was named the Little East Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week yesterday afternoon. Korzec began the week by tallying 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting, eight rebounds and three steals as the Anchorwomen dropped a heartbreaking, 68-67, overtime loss to Bridgewater State on Nov. 25.

 

 

 

She followed that performance with 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting, five rebounds and a game-high four steals as the Anchorwomen topped intra-state rival Roger Williams, 71-61, in overtime on Nov. 30. For the week Korzec scored 30 points on 12-for-20 shooting, recorded 13 rebounds and tallied seven steals.

 

For the season, Korzec has appeared in six games, starting one of them. She leads the team with 9.2 ppg on 44.0 percent (22-for-50) shooting from the field. She has tallied 23 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and 12 steals.

 

The Anchorwomen (1-5) return to action on Thursday, Dec. 4 when they visit cross-city rival Johnson & Wales. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at The Wildcat Center.
