CURRAN WINS THREE EVENTS IN, 115-82,
LOSS TO PLYMOUTH STATE

Plymouth, N.H.-Freshman Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, RI) won the 50-yard breaststroke (34.47), 50-yard freestyle (27.71) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.02), while junior Marykate McCutcheon  (Smithfield, RI) won the 500-yard freestyle (5:56.02), as the Rhode Island College women’s swimming team fell,  115-82, to Little East Conference foe Plymouth State on Saturday afternoon.

 

Curran picked up three victories for the Anchorwomen (1-2) who finished first in six of 14 events at the meet.

 

The Panthers’ (1-3) senior Sam Carberry (Shrewsbury, PA) took victories in the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.44), 100-yard backstroke (1:05.75) and the 50-yard butterfly (30.39), while sophomore Katia Wyman (Portsmouth, NH) earned victories in the 1000-yard freestyle (12:22.98) and the 200-yard IM (2:31.42) for the hosts.

Freshman Taylor Ryan (Warwick, RI) took home victories in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.87) and the 50-yard butterfly (30.56). McCutcheon placed first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:56.02) and placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.51).

 

Sophomore Rachel Soria (Pawtucket, RI) placed fourth in the 50-yard backstroke (35.25), fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (30.60) and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:16.53).

 

Freshman Samantha Roberts (Willington, CT) placed fifth in the 50-yard backstroke (43.01), fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:17.02) and second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:44.75).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at Husson on Saturday, Jan. 17 (1 p.m.).
