IN, 184.650-174.600, LOSS TO SPRINGFIELD

Providence, R.I.-Freshman Samantha LeMire (Moodus, CT) placed second in the all-around and third on bars as the Rhode Island College womenís gymnastics team opened their season with a 184.650-174.600 loss to Springfield in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III action held at The Murray Center on Sunday afternoon.


The RIC (0-1) score of 174.600 is the highest opening score in the past 10 seasons for the Anchorwomen.


Junior Emma Hartan (Hebron, CT) posted the highest score of the day for the Anchorwomen with a 9.250 on floor. She also posted a 9.175 on beam. Lemire was one of three Anchorwomen to compete in the all-around, scoring an 8.525 on vault, 9.200 on bars, 8.500 on beam and 9.150 on floor to total 35.375 in the all-around.





Senior Abby Clark (Holderness, NH) posted the high score of the day for the Pride (1-1), a 9.625 on floor, as well as taking the all-around victory with a score of 37.000. She scored 9.075 on vault, 9.000 on bars and 9.300 on beam. Sophomore Lexie Stiefel (West Chester, PA) placed first on beam (9.400), with freshman Brianna Kerr (Bolton, CT) taking first on bars (9.400). Sophomore Nicole Silva (Barrington, RI) took the top spot in vault with a 9.225.


Freshman Victoria Costello (Housatonic, MA) scored highest for the Anchorwomen on vault (9.200). Lemireís 9.150-effort on floor was second-best to Hartanís score. Hartan also topped the RIC contingent on beam with a 9.175.


Sophomore Emily Murphy (Hampden, CT) placed third in the all-around (34.400), with scores of 8.950 on vault, 8.450 on bars, 8.700 on beam and 8.300 on floor


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at Div. II Southern Connecticut on Saturday, Jan. 17 (1 p.m.).
