CHRIS BURTON AND JERELLE WASHINGTON EARN WEEKLY
LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE MENíS BASKETBALL RECOGNITION

Providence, R.I.-Senior forward Chris Burton (New Rochelle, NY) and freshman guard Jerelle Washington (Providence, RI) each garnered Little East Conference accolades for their respective performances in a 2-0 week for the Anchormen.

 

Burton was named the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Player of the Week, while Washington was named the Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.

 

Burton opened the week with 19 points, nine rebounds and two blocks as the Anchormen topped Tufts on the road, 61-58, to open their 2015 slate with a win. He followed that effort with 18 points, seven rebounds, five blocks and three steals as the Anchormen bested LEC foe and longtime rival Keene State, 74-58 on Jan. 10.

For the week he scored 37 points (on 12-for-20 shooting), to go along with 16 rebounds, four assists, seven blocks and four steals. Burton has appeared in 12 games on the season, making 11 starts. He is averaging 15.7 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 1.58 apg, 2.25 spg, and 2.17 bpg.

 

Washington opened the week with 10 points and three rebounds in the teamís victory over Tufts on Jan. 8. He followed that performance with eight points (on 4-for-6 shooting) and three boards in the win over the Owls. He scored 18 points, grabbed six boards and corralled two steals for the week.

Washington has appeared in 13 games for the Anchormen, while making five starts. He is averaging 6.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg and 1.38 apg.

 

Head Coach Michael Byrnes has the Anchormen sitting at 10-3 overall and 2-1 in Little East action.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference play at Southern Maine on Tuesday, Jan. 13 (7:30 p.m.).
