COSTELLO POSTS TOP VAULT SCORE AS ANCHORWOMEN FINISH FOURTH
AT SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT

New Haven, Conn.-Freshman Samantha LeMire (Moodus, CT) placed fifth in the all-around, while sophomore Emily Murphy (Hamden, MA) placed sixth in the all-around, as the Rhode Island College women’s gymnastics squad posted a fourth place finish (four teams) at a quad-meet hosted by Southern Connecticut on Saturday afternoon.

 

Div. II Bridgeport won the meet with a score of 192.000. Div. I Brown placed second (191.075) with the hosts, Div. II SCSU, placing third (189.850). RIC rounded out the quartet with a score of 175.375.

 

Freshman Victoria Costello (Housatonic, MA) recorded the highest score of the day for RIC, a 9.475 on the vault. She also competed on bars (7.975) and floor (8.025).

LeMire scored a 9.400 on vault, 8.725 on bars, 8.550 on beam and 9.150 on floor to total 35.825 in the all-around.

 

Murphy scored 9.250 on vault, 7.375 on bars, 9.300 on beam and 8.050 on floor for an all-around score of 33.975.

 

Junior Emma Hartan (Hebron, CT) competed on beam (9.150) and floor (8.900) for the Anchorwomen.

 

Freshman Courtney Osborn (Pomfret, CT) scored a team-high 9.050 on bars, while also competing in beam (7.750).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College return to action on Saturday, Jan. 24 when they travel to College Hill to take part in a quad-match at Brown (6 p.m.).
