ANCHORWOMEN POST BEST TEAM SCORE IN NINE YEARS WITH THIRD PLACE FINISH AT BROWN QUAD MEET

Providence, R.I.-Freshman Victoria Costello (Housatonic, MA) recorded the highest RIC score of the day on vault (9.450) to lead the Rhode Island College women’s gymnastics team to a third place (four teams) finish at the Brown University Quad on Saturday evening.

 

Brown won the event with 192.375 followed by Bridgeport with a 191.500. RIC placed third with a 177.925 while the University of Rhode Island (a club team) placed fourth with a 170.650.

 

The RIC team score was the highest mark for the Anchorwomen in nearly a decade. It was the most points the Anchorwomen totaled since posting a score of 178.925 at the 2006 ECAC Championships.

Brown sophomore Caroline Morant (Chicago, IL) took first in the all-aroun,; scoring 9.700 on vault, 9.675 on bars, 9.800 on beam and 9.700 on floor for a total of 38.875. Bridgeport senior Sasha Tsikhanovich (Marysville, OH) recorded the high-score of the day with a 9.975 on floor.

 

Costello also competed on bars (6.900) and floor (8.900) for the Anchorwomen.

 

Freshman Samantha LeMire (Moodus, CT) placed third in the all-around (36.875). She scored 9.425 on vault, 9.100 on bars, 9.075 on beam and 9.275 on floor.

 

Freshman Corrine Paul (North Easton, MA) placed third on the team with a 9.225 on vault. while also competing on bars (8.000).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Yale Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 31.
