SAMANTHA LEMIRE NAMED NCGA EAST
ALL-AROUND GYMNAST OF THE WEEK

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College freshman Samantha LeMire (Moodus, CT) was named the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East Region All-Around Gymnast of the Week for her performance at a quad-meet hosted by Brown on Jan. 24.

 

LeMire continued her stellar freshman campaign with a third place finish in the all-around to lead the Rhode Island College women’s gymnastics team to a third place (four teams) finish  with their highest score in nine seasons, a 177.925.

 

 Brown won the event with 192.375, followed by Bridgeport with a 191.500. RIC placed third with a 177.925 while the University of Rhode Island (a club team) placed fourth with a 170.650

 

 

 

 The RIC team score was the highest mark for the Anchorwomen in nearly a decade. It was the most points the Anchorwomen totaled since posting a score of 178.925 at the 2006 ECAC Championships.

 

LeMire placed third in the all-around with a score of 36.875. She scored 9.425 on vault (second on the team), 9.100 on bars (first on the team), 9.075 on beam (second on the team), and a 9.275 on floor (first on the team), to round out her evening.

 

LeMire is averaging scores of 9.117 on vault, 9.008 on bars, 8.708 on beam, 9.275 on floor and 35.025 in the all-around. 

 

Head Coach Bob Nannig's team is currently 0-1 overall and 0-1 vs. Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III competition.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at Yale on Saturday, Jan. 31 (1 p.m.).
