HILL SCORES A CAREER-HIGH 27 IN, 83-65, LOSS
AT UMASS DARTMOUTH

North Dartmouth, Mass.-Junior forward Devin Hill (Danielson, CT) scored a career-high 27 points to lead all scorers, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Rhode Island College women’s basketball team saw their four-game winning streak snapped with an 83-65 setback at Little East Conference foe UMass Dartmouth at the Tripp Athletic Center on Thursday evening.

The Corsairs (14-4, 7-1 LEC) opened a 9-2 lead just four minutes into the game when sophomore forward Megan Ronaghan (North Attleboro, MA) converted on a jumper. The Anchorwomen (6-12, 4-4 LEC) responded with a 9-4 run of their own, cutting the deficit down to two, 13-11, on a jumper from sophomore guard Jill Paladino (Arlington, MA) with 13:56 remaining in the half.

RIC shot 36.4 percent in the half, while UMD converted on 45.9 percent of their shots from the floor in the stanza.

Hill started the second half quickly for the Anchorwomen and helped cut the deficit to six, 41-35, with 17:16 to play. A pair of free throws from UMD senior guard Kelsey Garrity (Sommerville, MA) ballooned the lead to 14, 74-60, with 2:20 left to play. Garrity made the final two points of the evening special, scoring her 1,000 and 1,001 career points on a pair of free throws to close out the contest.

Hill paced the Anchorwomen with 27 points and seven boards. Sophomore guard Alex Moore (West Newbury, MA) tossed in 13 points and hauled in eight rebounds, while freshman guard Jess Korzec (West Brookfield, MA) scored 11. The Anchorwomen shot 35.7 percent from the floor (25-for-70), 25.0 percent (4-for-16) from behind the three-point arc and 50.0 percent (11-for-22) from the charity stripe.

Garrity paced the Corsairs with 26 points and nine boards. Robaghan tossed in 19 points and freshman forward Alicia Kutil (Franklin, MA) also scored in double figures with a 17-point effort.
