CUMMINS & VAZQUEZ BREAK PROGRAM RECORDS AS RIC MEN'S TRACK & FIELD FINISHES THIRD AT NEW ENGLAND ALLIANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Providence, R.I.-Junior Edward Cummins (Lincoln, RI) and sophomore Steven Vazquez (Central Falls, RI) each broke program records to lead Rhode Island College at the 2015 New England Alliance Menís Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Rhode Island College and UMass Dartmouth at the Providence Career and Technical Academy on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Anchormen took fifth place (10 teams) in the Alliance, which is comprised of Little East and MASCAC institutions, with a score of 75.0. Bridgewater State took home the championship with a score of 153.0.

 

RIC finished third (six teams) in the Little East with a score of 114.0. Southern Maine won the title with a score of 206.

 

 

 

Cummins took home the Alliance championship, and established a new program record, in the weight throw (18.44m). He also placed 10th in the shot (12.70m).

 

Vazquez earned N.E. Alliance honors in two events. He finished first in the high jump (2.14m), which set a program record, and also finished eighth in the triple jump (13.12m).

 

Senior Jarell Forbes (Providence, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors in four events. He finished fourth in the 60m hurdles (8.50), seventh in the high jump (1.93m) and eighth in both the long jump (6.45m) and the 400m (52.41).

 

Sophomore Colin Cabral (Cumberland, RI) took home N.E. Alliance honors in two events. He placed second in the weight throw (15.39m) and sixth place in the shot (13.57m).

 

Junior Christian Colavecchio (Foster, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors with a third place finish in weight throw (15.17m).

 

Sophomore Seth Larbi (Pawtucket, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors with a fifth place finish in the weight throw (14.87m).

 

Freshman Akiel Legall (Providence, RI) took home N.E. Alliance honors in two events. Legall finished fourth in the long jump (6.67m) and eighth in the 60m (7.37).

 

Freshman John Brapoh (Providence, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors with a sixth place finish in the 60m hurdles (8.66).

 

The 4x200m relay team comprised of Legall, freshman Matt Charles (North Providence, RI), freshman Steven Perez (Providence, RI) and freshman Vincent Santos (Narragansett, RI) broke the program record in that event with a time of 1:33.60.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the New England Div. III Championships hosted by Smith (11 a.m.) on Feb. 20-21.
