JEAN-JACQUES HEADS TO NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AS FOUR ANCHORMEN PLACE AT NORTHEAST REGIONAL MEET

Bristol, R.I.-Sophomore Terrance Jean-Jacques (Haverhill, MA) placed second at 285 lbs. and qualified for the 2015 NCAA Div. III National Wrestling Championships as Rhode Island College placed 10th (18 teams) at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships, hosted by Roger Williams on Feb. 28 and March 1.

 

 Jean-Jacques, who was the top seed, went 3-1 with a major and pair of decisions at the regional. He lost for the first time this season (31-1) to second-seeded James Bethel from Oneonta State, 7-5, in the finals match. By virtue of his performance at the regional, Jean-Jacques qualified for the NCAA National Championships, which will be held in Hershey, Pa. on March 14-15.

 Senior 133 lbs. Jonathan Costa (New Bedford, MA) went 4-2 to place fourth and join Jean-Jacques on the All-Northeast Regional team. He was unseeded at the tournament.

 Junior 149 lbs. Shawn Giblin (Cranston, RI) went 4-2 with a pin and a major decision en route to a fifth place finish and a spot on the All-Northeast Regional team. Giblin was seeded fifth at the meet.

 Sophomore 157 lbs. Michael Murphy (North Providence, RI) went 2-3 to finish sixth and secure a spot on the All-Northeast Regional team. He was unseeded coming into the tournament.

 Ithaca won the regional with a team score of 128.5. The Anchormen totaled a score of 55.5.
