ASHLEY MERTENS NAMED AN
NCGA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN

Providence, R.I.-The National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) named Rhode Island College senior Ashley Mertens (Wakefield, RI) an Academic All-American.

 

Mertens, who wrapped up her career with the Anchorwomen at the NCGA East Regional on March 14, owns a 3.38 GPA as a nursing major.

 

As a senior in 2014-15, she registered a season-high score of 8.500 on beam against Springfield on Mar. 9.

 

 

 

She was a reserve on the team as a junior in 2013-14. As a sophomore in 2011-12, Mertens recorded a score of 7.200 on beam at the West Chester Quad on March 2. As a freshman in 2011-12, she recorded a season-high score of 8.125 on vault at the Yale Quad on Feb. 11.

 

Mertens is a 2011 graduate of South Kingstown High School.

 

Head Coach Bob Nannig’s team wrapped up the 2014-15 season with a 0-3 record. The Anchorwomen finished sixth (six teams) at the NCGA East Regional with a score of 180.100, the highest team score for the program in 10 years.
